I keep one of these: https://shop.advanceautoparts....rm=Windshield+repair

In each of my personal vehicles, and the work vehicle.

A few times being able to quickly fix a small chip has saved me from having to replace a windshield.

6 mo’s after I bought my Altima, a flat bed with equipment on it dropped a golf ball size rock on the highway and bounced into my windshield. A small crater was created, but no cracks over 3/8”. A repair kit, then polished all the rough edges that caught the light. That was 4 years ago, still no cracks. Do camrys have the same issue as the Toyota trucks?

My 2016 Tacoma's windshield got nailed by a rock on my way to its 5k service. It ended up being a ~20in long crack.

Luckily, I just switched over to Traveler's insurance and have a $50 glass deductible.

Score.

I mostly drive a 2012 Elantra. Had a couple bits of rock (I guess) bounce off the windshield with no visible effect.

However, There is a visible area on the windshield where scratches have occurred from the wiper blades. Not all that terrible, yet!, but will probably need to replace windshield before long, depending on state inspection.

I’m at the glass place right now getting it changed out on my Taco. The techs here told me they are all getting more fragile across the board.
