My wife was paying our lot rent on Thursday about 5 PM. The office closes at 5 PM and this was one day after payday. She knows the manager and was talking with her, when a POS came in, with thick layered clothes, mask, and a gun.
The POS, pointed the pistol at the female manager's head and said "Put the money in the bag!" My wife and the manager thought it was a joke.
The POS said. "This is a robbery, I am robbing you." My 107 pound wife said, "Oh no your not!" and grabbed the POS's hand holding the gun. My wife and the manager fought the POS and pushed him out of the building.
The manager called 911 and my wife (I know she should not have done this), chased the POS to a car waiting. She got a good description of the car and license #.
The manager called her later and showed her an article on "SCAMMER JOE" that about 6:00 PM the same day, a portable coffee shop was robbed within 300 meters of our home. The description was the same. A "chubby Mexican in a silver Impala."
I thank GOD my wife and the manager are safe. I have taught my wife for years, to just surrender any $$$, if an armed robbery happens. She said, "I am tired of the crime in Anchorage since the politicians passed SB91. I refuse to be a victim."
My 107 pound wife is spunky but now I am trying to convince her to train to carry a firearm. After 24 years of marriage, she said she is willing. She has shot all my long arms and pistols at the range. But she refused to carry anything more than OC spray.

Wow! Lucky she's still with you. I don't care what anyone says, but that was not smart.

Agreed yet also can empathize with OP's wife and her frustration.

I can't fault her for fighting off the robber (prolly just instinctive reaction) but, yeah, she shouldn't have run after the guy.

I know we're all glad she's safe though.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Yeah, most people who know they should carry, don't because "they don't want to hurt anyone".

While I understand the sentiment, this no longer applies in her case.

When she not only told the POS to pound sand, but then took the fight to an armed man while unarmed, and then took pursuit after him, any argument she can come up with for not carrying a gun gets a firm, "Nuh uh. No. Nein. Nichts. Nada. Nyet." from you.

I am glad your wife and the manager are safe, but cannot tell you what she did was right or wrong.

You never know what WILL happen when a criminal is in action, he could have taken the money and then shot both people. So there is no you should do this or you should do that .

I read the Alaska Dispatch every day, your state and cities, seem to have an overburden of thefts.

Take care.

I do like AK, but there is a good amount of riff-raff around parts of Anchorage. One needs to keep their S.A. tuned.

Ruger 9mm SR1911. Has a very light recoil spring for easy cycling of the slide, pretty near powder puff recoil, has an aluminum frame for a fairly light weight and is very accurate with a 4.5 lbs. SA trigger. I will also note that after about 250 rounds a month since last spring I have not had one single malfunction of any description when using Wilson Combat magazines. Can't say the same for Rugers 9mm 1911 magazines, the feed lips on those are too short and as a result double feeds are routine. I will also note that whatever (suspect cerracoat) Ruger coated the frame with there is still absolutely no visible wear on the frame. Whatever Ruger used Sig needs to investigate because every Sig I own has brite aluminum showing on the rails.

I've stopped counting.

Who dares, wins!

My wife, a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Tong Soo Do, says the biggest weapon is surprise when a little old lady unexpectedly turns into ~110 lbs of whoop ass. Then, aggressive violence usually works.

Usually.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Thank you everyone that replied. I appreciate all the advice and comments. Mrs ATT now wants to learn basic self defense and "possible" firearm training.

Yes. When I moved there, two brothers from Mexico were on the mover's crew unloading the moving truck.

Other warm climate demographics I surprisingly encountered were Samoan and Filipino.
