On Monday, I noticed from fingers on one hand being numb. Called the doctor's office for an appointment. Told the nurse what was wrong and she put on the phone with the Doctor. He asked a few questions and said "If you aren't close to the hospital, call an ambulance". I had stroke like symptoms a few years ago. Ambulance took me in. Poked.prodded, EKG, EEG. MRI, MRA, CT Scan, scan of my spine, Echo of my heart.

Do not know for sure what caused it but the tests did not show anything. I am leaving the hospital with a brace on my wrist.

Guess this was my yearly physical.

My girlfriend was talking about carpal tunnel with the farmer's wife down the road from us a few years ago, seems they both had it. My girlfriend from too much time working on a computer, the farmer's wife from too much time milking cows. Big Grin

And the farmer from....

Emg' s are kinda fun. It's kinda cool when they start shocking you and your fingers twitch and your arms flop around on their own

You have a sick sense of humor. LOL.

To the OP, at least it's not a stroke. I hope they can fix you up quick. I've had problems / pain with my right arm from being on the computer. Went to the physical therapist. Besides manipulating the sore knot in my neck, she gave me a "doh" moment when she asked if I considered switching my mouse from my right to my left hand. It helped a lot and is giving my right arm time to recover.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Did they resolve on their own? Or remain numb?

I find positions where my elbow is bent for extended (or not-so extended) time causes my thumb, fore and middle fingers to go numb. When I straighten them out they come back, but within a minute or so of resuming the position (driving, typing, etc) they are numb again.

Seeing what all you went through, I expect yours is more than just that.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

Still numb.

I'm getting too old for this crap. After 40 + years as a cop, I have more screws and pins in my body than most hardware stores stock.

I have to call the Neuro doc to schedule the EMG. Hopefully it's not my neck that needs fixed.

I have carpal tunnel in my right wrist and deal with numbness from time to time. I wear a brace on my wrist when I sleep and that typically helps. If I go too long without wearing it my wrist hurts on a daily basis and the numbness get worse. Fun times getting older.

Had carpal tunnel in both hands, it was so bad that working on anything that required my fingers was impossible. Hand would go numb using the mouse on the computer. Finally when to see an ortho surgeon and they did the release on both hands. Back to normal, best thing I could of done.

Like Jimbo, I have c.t. in both wrists. I wear the splints at night . My hand specialist did an injection of a steroid and it has provided great relief. Mine was waking me up at night and got to bother me during the day as well.

According to the doctor, if you respond favorably to the steroid you are a good candidate for the surgery. When , or if, mine gets bothersome I won't hesitate to have it done.

Good luck with yours. It is definitely treatable.

On my left arm, I had the ulnar nerve moved to the inside of my arm (normally inside the elbow joint). This fixed my bent-arm problem with numb fingers on left hand. Chongo asked if it gets better. Maybe it does if you can afford to not use your arm for a few months, but mine wouldn't go away and was actually getting worse over time (more numbness). Surgery was easy and was only down a couple of days.

Next week I am going to see about getting my carpal tunnel opened up on my right hand to alleviate ongoing hand and wrist pains.

Basically, I am at the age where I am still very active, but I aint got enough life or patience left to just "let shit heal" by not using it. If I can go under the knife for a minor surgery, easy fix, I'm damn well going to look into it.
