Went through the same freaking thing with T mobile when I dumped them.
The phones are paid for, they are mine, my account is up to date and 100% paid. I have had zero late payments in 2 years,
Now just unlock the damn phones.

Everybody’s got a blank page. A story they’re writing today. A wall that they’re climbing. You can carry the past on your shoulders.
Or you can start over.
Regrets, no matter what you goin’ through. Jesus, He gave it all to save you. He carried the cross on His shoulders. So you can start over.

I ALWAYS buy an unlocked phone and take it to my carrier rather than buying one of their locked models. That may be something you could look into in the future, it makes it much simpler to switch providers if you feel you must.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Yup. Bought our iPhones at The Apple Store, paid for them outright, no carrier attached.

Then we went to the provider that offered the best bang for the buck on service plan.

Doing it this way, all you need is your account number and PIN if you want to go to a different service provider. Actually, you only need that if you want to keep your phone number; if you're willing to accept a new number from the new provider, you don't even need to know your account number and PIN from the provider that you're leaving.

Sprint

One phone was free is why I did not pay outright.

If you want to use the Sprint network without dealing with the crappy Sprint customer NO-service, take a look at ting.com

Ting is a Sprint reseller. They have fantastic customer service, both for pre-sale, and for ongoing service. You'll probably be able to save some serious money, too.

T Mobile was who I dumped for Sprint.
I picked up AT&T and now have pretty solid signal at my cabin which I have never had before even when I was with AT&T many years ago.
