I attempted to deliver two cases of wine to a customer yesterday. Since it's alcohol it requires a signature to be released. I get to the house and nobody's home. I leave a tag and move on.

Today, I reattempted delivery. I get to the house and the guy is waiting at the door. He immediately starts moaning about how inconvenient it is that he be there to sign for his delivery. He even says he wasn't going to wait much longer. In the back of my mind, I'm thinking, "If this is too damned hard for you, you're perfectly welcome to not shop for alcohol online, you fucktard." But instead, I smile, have him sign for the delivery, and got out before I said something.

Remind him that it's Fer Da Chirrens.

Is he a wine snob an oenophile (I love that word) and this wine is something he can't find locally? I can't think of any other reason to buy alcohol online. In the United States, except for a few "dry" counties or Loma Linda, CA, you can't throw a rock without hitting a liquor store. Hell, in your county they make wine.

... just a tidbit of information... If you're referring to a certain Sacramento area town that was made "famous" by a certain radio personality, the correct name is Rio Linda!

I worked a company once upon a time that would give people an hour window we would be there within... its amazing how many people you would tell we’ll be there between 3-4 or whatever the time is and when you show up at 330 they aren’t there and when you call them they say they’re 45 minutes away...

I miss signature required packages all the time because I normally can’t just sit around all day waiting on a package that isn’t terribly important, but I would never take that out on the delivery person.. half the time I just go to the hub when they return at night and pick up the package myself so they don’t have to redeliver it...

For repeat customers, I make arrangements that I’ll sign for the package as long as they understand that they can’t blame me if something happens after I’ve delivered it because it will get me fired. I don’t make that arrangement with anyone I haven’t gotten to know a little more in-depth, though. It really makes them happy that they won’t have to stay home and makes future deliveries easier for me.

I wouldn't sign for anything. If you have a repeat customer, just have them sign a pink slip, and keep it for future use.

I've had business customers that get 100+ things a day they have to sign for, and they aren't always there when I show up. If it's a business, just leave it at the address, and you can scan it daily. Now I have a magistrate's office that gets a lot of return certified's coming back. Not worth their time or mine, to get a signature, as we both are extremely busy that time of day.

You can get creative, and store it on your phone as well. But you do not want to use your signature.

I know from your past posts you speak from many years of experience. I, for one, look forward to the delivery of a package requiring a signature. It usually means some nice goodies, like a new Apple iPhone/computer, or, most recently, a Molon Labe ring from Dave Truong.
 
However, my signature looks like that Physician's alphabet that has been posted in several current forums, and we know our carrier well, as she is a local neighbor. Once in a great while, when she is behind or it's hot, and neither of us is immediately available, she will scribble a sig and leave the package. Our house is very secure and well guarded, and she knows this. You cannot see the parcel from the street where the carrier leaves it. It is 100 yards from the street and hidden behind some cinder blocks. Also you are escorted by 3 very large dogs as you drive up the long driveway (they're fenced, of course, but the casual thief doesn't know they cannot get to him somehow).
 

Loma Linda is kind of the opposite of Rio Linda. It is a Seventh-Day Adventist community, or at least there is a SDA medical school there.
