So, anyone else no endorsing the NRA anymore?
So after reading a few articles, and confirming they have made the statement, I can not support the NRA anymore. I understand that for the good of all gun owners, you can't side with the gunman, but banning, restricting, or regulating anything about the defense of the individuals, you put the community in communism. The right of the individual, or the safety of the community, which comes first? Because in communism its the community, and in American it used to be the idividual.

I think that on the bump stock issue the NRA is screwing up.

But I have no intention of cutting off my nose just to spite my face.

Don't alienate your allies.

Thanks,

I still consider myself a life member.

The NRA has issues, but the leftists not only despise the organization, they're scared of it.
Not a bad thing Wink.

I don't agree with the NRA recent decision, BUT we need the NRA now more than ever.

The well funded anti gun groups have generated a big shit storm that's coming our way.

We need the NRA.

I was irate at first.

Then I thought it through.

They've lateraled it to the ATF and asked them to revisit it. Washed their hands of it.

ATF ruled it (correctly) in 2010, not a machine gun.

Now they get to determine if it may warrant reclassification. Or not.

This is not a bargaining chip the NRA can get anything in return for. If they lock horns and fight it, it will end up in Congress and they will be outlawed or regulated into irrelevance, with the liberals claiming a victory.

Let ATF fall on their own sword.

Applaud the NRA for not biting down on the passing turd.

Or they could have just kept their mouths shut about bump stocks. Dumbasses.

As far as strategies go, you negotiate like this "We will support banning bump stocks in exchange for the Hearing Protection Act or CCW reciprocity".

Yeah, I sent them a "FU, strong letter to follow" message on their website after not being able to get thru to them on the phone for half an hour. I think I'm not the only one upset with them.

There was an article where the strategy was to put this(bump stock issue) in the hands of the ATF, avoiding a fight in Congress.

Right or wrong, there may be solid reasoning behind it. I certainly don't blame this bump stock as the reasoning behind the shooting, could of been about the same without it.

I'm not at all worried the NRA is going to throw hi-cap magazines and ARs under the bus to appease the lefty's.

Last I heard they were pushing Congress to exchange outlawing the stock for reciprocity. Do you really care anyway? The full auto battle was lost in '86. And you COULD contact the NRA and express your opinion.

On the one hand I understand the OP's annoyance.

OTOH: 1. You gotta pick your battles and this is one that cannot be won. It's a device clearly designed to subvert the will of Congress in restricting access to fully-automatic weapons. You may not agree with the law, but that is the law. 2. I'd never even heard of a bump stock before Las Vegas. 3. The NRA may be imperfect, but they're the best thing gun owners have.

I am pleased that the NRA has decided not to fight this issue. We don't need bump stocks and other silly shit. By not fighting over useless gimics, it may actually improve the NRA's position at the table. There is a problem in today's society and we all neeed to act like grownups to control it.

The "we don't need" argument is a non-starter. Who gets to decide what is "needed" and what is not? I.e.: The most ardent anti-guns types feels we don't need guns at all.

Useless to you, perhaps. I certainly have no interest in it. But "one man's trash..." and all.

Near 11k posts here, and a member for nearly 10 years, and you actually believe that?

You're deluding yourself if you believe any kind of gun control would stop anybody like the nutjob in LV. Witness the NYC bomber, for example.

So let us say that, instead of spraying gunfire from 300-400 yards away, he decided to surreptitiously deposit three or four shrapnel-laden IEDs in small backpacks, with timers, throughout the crowd?

Or wait until the crowd was letting out and drive a big truck through it as it exited?

There is no end of means for committing mayhem. Don't buy into the leftist/gun-grabber mentality that, just because you think it's "unnecessary," it's suitable for banning.

And don't believe for a hot second that taking a pass on this restriction is going to make that crowd more reasonable.

I’m agreement with this position.... bump stocks are silly gimmicks that serve limited purpose other than wasting ammo. And giving the illusion of a full auto platform. If you want a full auto device, cough up the $$$$$ and the time/$ for the stamp.

Trying to battle this device in Congress & the press would be very fruitless.

Just my $0.02.

I agree with this. The NRA needs to spend their money on making sure we keep our gun rights and not fighting court battles over gimmicky things. While I'm not a fan of big brother telling us what we can/can't have I see very little use for a bumpfire stock short of blowing through a case of ammo real quick. We need them to be focusing on keeping most of the country's rights to high capacity magazines and firearms in general.
