This was a new one for me.

Yesterday, I was driving back from the Golden Triangle on a state highway that was 2-lanes in each direction. Since we were still in the outskirts of Beaumont there were stoplights every 1/2 mile to mile.

I pass this Cadillac XTS with its 4 way flashers driving 10 or 15 mph below the speed limit and weaving. Blue hair woman driving it was finger fucking her phone and looking more down than up. I'd get ahead of her and she'd catch up at a stoplight, and whether driving or stopped keep right on texting with her 4 way flashers on.

WTF? Texting and driving is illegal in TX (law went in effect 9/1/17) and putting on your 4 way flashers does not make it OK.

I think all use of hazards, unless legitimately in a disabled / damaged car, should be punishable by death.

The fucking sally's and soibios who put them on when it rains really hard need to be culled from the herd, quickly.

I agree, in Miami they put them on, on the highway in the rain and it's just plain distracting and well illegal.

Maine requires Flashers to be used if traveling under the minimum highway speed (45mph). You'll often see trailer trucks with them on if they are heavy and slowed down because of a hill, or when traffic slows due to weather... but I've NEVER seen anyone use them for texting!

Damn!

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

I have seen a number of them around here. The worse ones, however, are the ones that simply focus on their damned smart phone, while doing 70+mph, in a 55 speed zone. Weaving all over the place, not to mention tail-gating the car in front.

Call it in, should make it easier for law enforcement to find her.

Well, she was a "hazard".

It may be illegal but they don’t enforce it, at all.

AGREED, 100%!

Florida Staute 316.2397, paragraph (7) (a) prohibits ALL flashing lights except "As a means of indicating a right or left turn, to change lanes, or to indicate that the vehicle is lawfully stopped or disabled upon the highway."

I have been told that there is an exception for cars that are part of a funeral procession, but I have not been able to find that in the statutes. Not sure about an escort vehicle for an oversized load. But the prohibition against using flashers while driving in the rain is very clear. I do know that in one jurisdiction the fine, if ticketed for that and found guilty, is $115.

They are only for when you are stopped in or on the side of the road. Maybe sometimes for still moving but at a substantially lower speed. You see this on trucks climbing or descending a steep grade.

Those will have flashing yellow light(s) on top (like those of a tow truck) and a sign or banner.

I have used them from time to time on high speed highways where traffic is stopped and I’m the last car. I look in my rear view mirror at a car approaching at high speed and hit my flashers.

Around Salt Lake City traffic on I-15 is either going 85 or 0. Darn right my flashers go on if I’m last in line.

I’ve only been rear ended twice.....so far.

4-Way Flashers: International Non-Driver Symbol

Usually when I pass them and stare, I find they are likely barely able to drive proficiently in dry, sunny conditions.

If you're stopping on the road (or at the side of the road), that is proper use for the flashers.

It's required in VA.

And a DOT permit. Not to be taken lightly or in a casual manner.

IMO Texting and Driving should carry an automatic additional charges of Reckless Driving AND Impaired Driving. Because it is a Reckless act and does Impair driving ability. So hit them with 12 points right off the bat. Maybe then these fools would finally "get it".

I've stopped counting.

Driving with your flashers on is also illegal in Texas. For realsies. For no reason should you drive with flashers on - not in bad weather, or if you are going to the hospital, or if you are going slow . . . No driving with flashers in Texas.
