Then you can compare Trumps four years (really 3) against Biden’s 47.

Bidens List of accomplishments per year.

1973 Biden enters politics...
1974
1975
1976
1977 *Biden fights to keep schools segregated because in his own words, “allowing blacks to integrate would create a racial jungle”... fact check me....
1978
1979
1980
1981
1982
1983 BIDEN TAXES SS**
1984
1985
1986
1987
1988 *ran for president but had to end his campaign after getting busted for plagiarism...
1989
1990 Hang on almost there...
1991
1992
1993 BIDEN TAXES SS=AGAIN**
1994 *Biden writes the "Stop and Frisk" law which is what blacks blame for "systemic racism" today. This law took millions of black men from their homes and transplanted them into prison. Way to go Joe. This was Biden's biggest accomplishment in 47 years of elected office. Factcheck me...it's true.
1995
1996
1997 Almost, not yet...
1998
1999
2000
2001
2002
2003
2004
2005
2006
2007
2008 calls Obama the first “articulate" and "clean" mainstream African-American
2009
2010
2011
2012
2013
2014
2015
2016

I know lots of conservatives. In general, we talk with each other once we know we are on the same side. We are polite to people who don't agree with us and don't engage in pointless arguments. But we also don't preach our views to random people.

What gets me is that the GDC's will just spout off to anyone about how much they hate Trump and all that goes along with it, like they assume that everyone agrees with them. They repeat the talking points - Trump said WuFlu was a hoax, praised white supremacists at the rally a few years ago, is a racist, gutted the CDC pandemic response team, etc. - that have all been debunked. And any disagreement results in visceral emotional reactions.

I was getting on a long flight to Asia back when the last Brit royal wedding happened. Boarding the plane, a Brit woman maybe 50 said "I can't believe Americans are so stupid to elect that man!" I didn't engage. What I wanted to say was "Now that I know how you feel about my President, would you like to hear what I think of your Prime Minister? Nothing. I don't know who he is and I don't care. That's how important your also-ran failed empire is on the world stage. It makes zero difference. Enjoy your Brexit"

But it's not worth the effort to acknowledge their views even matter, then deal with the unhingedness. I suppose if I said I voted for Trump and support him 100% and prefer not to hear her opinion, and she talked shit back to me, I would just ask for her to be removed from the flight for verbally abusing a fellow passenger. But I was in long haul international business class on the company dime and I am not getting into any kind of altercation that could be used against me. Not worth it.

A common theme in this thread is the hatred conservatives are receiving from friends and relatives. That animus doesn't go the other way.

It's easy for me to hate leftist politicians and opinion makers, they stir the pot, pull the strings, rattle the cages. I don't have that feeling for democrats in my life. I don't want them dead.

The left can't exist without enemies and oppressors, that is us. The hate being directed our way is the scariest and most destructive thing going on today. Reading this thread is a reminder of how deep the hate is.

You can’t argue with someone who is too stupid to realize that what was done to Trump can be done to them.

Fortunately, my family is mostly on the same page politically. For the ones that aren't, the subject is easily avoided. The stories I'm hearing here make me think of the years preceding the Civil War and what they must have been like.

I haven’t replied to this as I sometimes fail at making my point, where anyone other the myself understands it. Here it goes:

My dad (pop) is one of my best friends. He’s a really good human. He has always looked out for his fellow humans. He is a tower of knowledge. He is incredibly intelligent. I’m not saying this because he’s my pops, I’m saying this as he studied mathematics and physics at Stanford, and the guy really is a genius. He was/is a great father. We were always provided for, and loved. I hang out with him quite a bit. Hell, we moved here to spend more time with him before he gets too old. I go help him with some of his home projects. He comes and checks out some of my projects, and has helped with a couple. We have made some off road adventures.

My pops is left. Not a little, he’s way out there. Thinks Trump is the devil and that Biden is the second coming of Christ. He used to be okay with guns, but now that table is turning. There are times that he will start to discuss politics or gun control. These are two subjects I do not agree with him on. Not even close. Our agreement on these matters is more separated than oil and water. It’s more like the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Discussing politics, religion, and abortion with people that are not like minded is a waste of time for everyone involved. YOU WILL NOT CHANGE THEIR BELIEFS NO MATTER HOW SOLID YOUR ARGUMENT IS. Just like they won’t change your beliefs.

I don’t discuss politics or guns with him. The key word here is I. He will discuss them. I don’t discuss them back. Or I just smile and nod.
When he starts to discuss these things, I listen. I shut my mouth, and remember that this is the guy who taught me so many things. He provided a great home when I was a kid. He supported me in everything I have done, and has loved me unconditionally. So I shut up, and I listen. If he asks my opinion, I usually say something like “Doesn’t matter who the president is, I wake up, I go to work, I pay taxes. The only thing that really changes is the price of gas”. Most of the time I just shut up and listen.

Getting into a political discussion with him will do no one any good. He will walk away feeling disgruntled, I’ll feel bad for starting an argument, it will sour the day, and no one will win anything. Plus this is my pops, I don’t need to win.

There are many things in this world that I don’t agree with. Countless things. I have the ability to listen to things I don’t like, or don’t want to hear, without losing my self control. If I defended my opinion on every issue I disagree with, that’s all I would do. So why the need to do this with someone I care about?

Ever see the movie Roadhouse? There is a small part of that movie that has stuck with me since I saw it as a kid.
Dalton: Be nice. Don’t take it personal.
Steve: Being called a cocksucker isn't personal?
Dalton: No. It's two nouns combined to elicit a prescribed response.
Steve: What if somebody calls my mama a whore?
Dalton: Is she?

Maybe what your family member is saying isn’t true and correct. It kind of goes back to the conversation above. It may be said by the other person, but just because it has been said, doesn’t make it true, and doesn’t mean I have to respond.

I have enough love for my pops that I don’t need to defend my opinion with him.

Concerning the Biden timeline posted above. 88 to 94 was his busiest. You left out two completely viscous attacks on Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas. I wasn't paying attention for Bork. But, I was for Thomas and I can never trust or forgive what he did. As far as family goes. Blood is thicker than politics. Love them anyway.

Your right mom. I do hate. I hate when my own mom acts like a damn buffoon and wants to talk politics all the time. I hate that my own mom thinks I’m a hateful racist because I support a candidate that is neither hateful , nor racist. I hate that my own mom is a brainwashed liberal idiot.

I think this is the difference:

They think we are amoral, evil, brainwashed cultists, or whatever from what they see and hear in the media.

We understand that they are misinformed sheep parroting what the corrupt media and educational system tells them. And that in time, they will suffer the same consequences we do over the policies of the politicians they elect.

In my observation, many of them are rooted in the culture wars of the 60's-80's, especially die hard baby boomer democrats. They revere JFK, despise Nixon, were anti Vietnam war (except that was Kennedy and Johnson that got us into it), pro civil rights (Johnson signed it but many democrats in Congress voted against it) pro abortion, and pro liberty.

Yeah they were pro liberty with regard to freedom of speech, freedom of expression in art and movies, anti-censorship, pro-pornography, etc. Any issue that represented artists fighting against social conservatives is one they supported. Looking back on Lenny Bruce getting arrested for saying bad words, or television stations not showing Elvis' below the waist, or being aghast at the Beatles "long hair" in 1964, and even the PMRC in the 80's, the issues are so mild compared to today that they are trite. When you have explicit rap dominating music and every computer on the internet has porn on demand of every kind imaginable, those old fights seem silly.

And largely, all of those battles were won. About the only thing left is the FCC still won't allow the 7 dirty words and nudity on broadcast TV, but that is changing to. Advertisers are as much to blame for that too.

But, the social conservatives they fought weren't necessarily Republicans. Many were democrats. And now that the marxists have infiltrated the democrat party, they have moved on to the economic and social justice arguments that are not the same as civil or equal rights. But this is their identity and they aren't going to change.

My mom is 77 and still votes democrat because she "believes in a woman's right to choose". Really, R v. W was decided in 1973 and it's not getting repealed. Not even by the current court. And when I tell her what Obama and the Democrats actually did, and when Biden is planning to do, she is aghast, but somehow it doesn't sink in enough to make a difference.

The only thing that will change them is seeing the effects of bad policy on themselves. And even then, as in CA< many will not see it.

Related but a huge topic on its own, Roosevelt democrats. FDR was the first president to use mass media communication -- fireside chats. He exploited identity politics by setting one group against another. Fat cat money men vs. average Joe persists today, over simple, cartoon imagery that serves to divide. Not the only us vs. them FDR creation.

It goes on and on but the spawn of Roosevelt dems are a plague upon us to this day, generations of voters with only a hint of a clue and led by the hand to those hints.
