My half-inch impact gun didn't hold up under hard use - the sprag clutches broke, leaving the motor spinning uselessly, after only ~7 months - and a couple of tools my brother got were also unsatisfactory, he said. Any recommendations I made in the past were based on the best info I had at the time.

If I might ask, what level were these tools? Brushed or Fuel? If you say these are Fuel, I’m going to be sad.

I bought my first really crappy Fuel tool last year. The M18 Hole Hawg. It wouldn’t drive a 3/4 auger through a double plate. I exchanged it for a Fuel hacksaw, which as been outstanding. I’ll stick with a corded Hole Hawg for now.

Sorry it broke on you.

Makes me happy I went with the made in US Dewalt 1/2"impact then (haven't had much use yet so hopefully it holds up).

I was so close to pulling the trigger on the Milwaukee lineup but went with the Dewalt lineup since they had a better 20v fan and air pump.

Hopefully you can get a warranty replacement.

There’s a guy who does “Boring Old Tool Reviews” on you tube. His name is aVe. He is Canadian does his reviews in English,French, and gibberish...it’s brilliant.

And he fondly refers to Milwaukee tools as mill-fuckies

Haven't had any issues with Milwaukee tools, the Fuel lineup, as a homebuilder. I know that everyone will turn up duds. Best contact them for warranty information.

I'm quite sure all Milwaukee and Dewalt is made in China now. Frown

I've got an 18v 'fuel' MILWAUKEE drill and an impact. I've used and abused the hell out of them for three years. Contact them!

Old Milwaukee tools were nigh unbeatable.
I have also learned to pass on new ones.

I have over grand worth of Milwaukee cordless stuff and just bought the brand new cordless M18 framing nailer. My experience goes back 30 years or more with them starting while in the construction business. So call me a fanboy but I love 'em.

I have had two quit that weren't just worn out or physically broken, at different times, one drill and one impact driver. Both were over three years old. Both OUT of warrantee. I dropped them off at a local servicing dealer for shipping back to Milwaukee for a repair estimate. The dealer handled everything including packing and shipping. I never even got a call with an estimate... but I did get both back repaired in under two weeks... I don't know what they did to the impact driver but in the drill they replaced the motor, switch, and circuit board. NO CHARGE! Zero, not even shipping either way.

YMMV but find a servicing dealer, take it in... ask for a repair quote and see what happens, it should be in warrantee right?

EDIT to add:
Milwaukee still has 5 plants in the USA to make tools, however most of their cordless ones do now come from China.

If it ain't woke... don't fix it.

I have been using milwaukee tools for 40 years daily and have had zero issues, all my latest stuff is the fuel line and it runs all day every day in my cabinet shop.

I would call them 7 months as long as it's not been abused and it is designed for the right purpose I'm sure they will take care of you.

A little like buying a Hi-Point Just kidding. I buy them for little tasks and don't mind so much if they break.
More good than bad, for me.

I work for a service contractor and our Electrical and Mechanical Service trucks all carry a wide assortment of Milwaukee tools, no complaints

I recently purchased one of their battery powered chain saws for home and it works very well.

I believe only the Dewalt XR line is made in the US.

It sure would be nice if the OP would drop by and provide an update. I ask again, was it a Fuel tool, or the consumer line?

Fuel.

I chose it over the tool trucks (Snap-On and Matco) not so much because of the lower price, but because theirs are hopelessly unwieldy in size, weight and weight distribution. I'll get around to repairing or replacing the tool some day, but I'm not in any hurry.
