So I'm closing on a house on Thursday.

My file has been handed off two times at the credit union because two people went out on sick leave.

So they call me this afternoon to tell me that I could be eligable for an additional $2,000 tax credit but they forgot to tell me about it when I first applied...and it takes two weeks to go through the process. Which would move my closing date up two weeks...and my appliances have already been ordered and are to be delivered in a week.

Arrrrgh....not sure what I'm going to do. It's a credit, not a deduction, although it's not refundable (but it carries over for 3 years until you use up the 2k) on top of the $8,000. $2,000 is a good bit of money...almost worth pushing everything back 2 weeks and trying to reschedule my delivery time for the appliances.

Dangit Mad

And it would save me around $250 I would be paying in interest for the month of November if I closed on the 5th rather than the 19th or so.

Decide whether the amount of money you'll actually save is worth the grief involved. If it's gonna cause chaos it's probably not worth it. If it's not, or if it's chaotic anyway and the change will not add much more, you might as well do it.

We went ahead and closed today. I got almost 2K back from closing, so I'll be happy and forget about the tax credit.
