My wife forwarded this to my phone, last night, when I was asleep. Some asshat must have posted it to her. Now, will have to somehow try to explain this shit to her without her getting even more upset! This is gonna be a nightmare.

Assholes!!!

From effin facebook:

Quick lesson about autoimmune diseases and covid19 . It is a disease where instead of your white blood cells protecting your body from invaders, they turn around and attack your cellcs, tissues and organs. Chronic fatigue is another symptom. It is not a cold or the flu, you will never get better, and even a nap will not help. Just eating a salad and hitting the gym won’t slim your face or get the pounds off. Sleeping 10 hours doesn’t leave you well rested, ever. The last minute changes in plans because that “just got ran over” feeling never makes appointments, it just walks in whenever you aren’t ready. Painful joints, muscles and bones, dry skin, breaking hair, hair loss, mood swings, and depression are just the tip of the iceberg. You are also prone to having multiple autoimmune diseases, they typically come in pairs of two. You easily catch viral and bacterial infections. You have days where no matter how hard you try, you just can’t smile for anyone.

I urge you to think twice before passing judgment and thinking our nation is overreacting to the extra measures being taken to curb the spread of this virus. YOU might be able to recover from it no problem however, carry it to SOMEONE WITH AN AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE and that individual won’t be as lucky.

I am watching the ones who will take the time to read this entire post and react. Please, in honor of someone who is fighting Severe Asthma, Addison’s disease, Endometriosis, M.E, Rheumatoid Arthritis, POTS, MCAD, Sjogren's, Scleroderma, Hashimoto Disease, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Sarcoidosis, Hepatitis, Raynauld's Syndrome, Diabetes, Mold Illness, Celiac, CROHN’S, Ulcerative Colitis, Pemphigus, SPS, MS, PBC, Psoriatic Arthritis, Psoriasis ,CIDP, MMN, GPA , CRPS and every other autoimmune disease, copy and paste to your page and reply "DONE" on mine.

I'm confused... If someone mailed you this in printed form, would that be the Post Office's fault, or the fault of the person who created the message?

There's lots of crap everywhere out there in the Internet, not just on Facebook...

I would simply tell her that the experts on Autoimmune Disorders do not publish their cutting edge research on Facebook. The New England Journal of Medicine or your very own rhematologist would be the best resource.

Sorry if this sounds cold, but people with such conditions are (or should be) already taking precautions, as are (or should be) people coming in contact with them. These problems are not our problems.

I have an autoimmune disease, Plaque Psoriasis with Psoriatic arthritis. The Facebook post is very unclear and seems to be designed to make people panic. Yes, autoimmune patients can express many of the symptoms listed but every case is different.

Many autoimmune diseases can be controlled with proper treatment but many treatments make them more vulnerable to other infections. It is critical for autoimmune patients to work closely with their doctors. Communication and understanding are key to staying healthy and minimizing symptoms.

The reason many with autoimmune diseases are at higher risk from COVID-19 is they are on some form of immune suppression to help control their autoimmune symptoms. This does increase their risk of COVID and many other infections, but it does not automatically mean you will get a pathogen nor does it mean every infection will be debilitating. People with autoimmunity need to understand their higher risks and what medicines they take. The best resource is their doctors, especially the specialists for their condition. If an autoimmune patients gets sick with any cold, flu, etc. they need to contact their specialist(s) and family doctor for treatments and guidance.

In my personal case, when I get a sinus or respiratory infection, I stop my autoimmune meds and contact my Rheumatologist and family doctor immediately for the best guidance. I get my flu and other vaccines because I know I need them. Being autoimmune can suck but you can manage it with diligence and communication with your doctors.

This is my personal experience based on my personal case, education, and profession. The internet is a great resource but you need to be careful where information comes from and if it is supported with advice from real physicians and specialist.

Best regards and good luck,

Mike (Molecular Biologist / Immunologist)

I avoided Facebook like a plague for years and finally caved when it was a requirement for sponsorship's to have a social media presence. It amazes me how many companies in the firearm industry use Facebook and other social media platforms that are blatantly anti-gun. I've even spoken to many about the use and they all say that it drives so much revenue to them that they can't afford not to use it.

It is incredible the amount of misinformation that comes across my feed and how much people fall for it and some of the guys I shoot with fall for it all hook, line and sinker. I do my sponsorship stuff on there and post some of my night photography pictures for my true friends to see and nothing else. Nothing political unless it is to help someone spread a message to get the word out of .gov's trying to limit rights like I did during the craziness in Virginia and if someone on my friends list starts droning on about tinfoil hat stuff I just unfollow them.

ZSMICHAEL has the best advice. Remind her to get information about the disease from the CDC or other accredited websites and leave Facebook for pictures of kids, grandkids and other positive things that may brighten her day.

I use Facebook to keep in touch with family and friends scattered across the country. I want to see pictures of them and their kids and their vacations and their dogs. I don't use Facebook as a place to gather news or debate. Family and friends who post too much bullshit, especially political, get unfollowed and I check their profiles when I feel like it.

I hate that copy/paste and Share nonsense and never participate in it.

I also hate the people that post something and try to shame you into passing it along, implying you're an uncaring inhumane asshole if you don't play along.

As much as I despise Facebook and find it useless, I'm reminded that it's not Facebook... It's the people on Facebook that fuck it all up.

Facebook shows us what's wrong with the Internet.
Every blathering idiot gets their say, and other idiots listen to them. It gets better when idiots pass the information along.

Imagine this forum if it went un-moderated. Para, Arc and the rest keep this place in pretty good check- Squash arguments when they get out of hand, quell the stupid stuff, and put people in the penalty box or drop the ban-hammer when needed. Trolls are weeded out rather quickly. Granted, everyone on here thinks pretty much the same way, which makes things easier as far as a social media platform. All conservative to a degree or two, like guns, bacon, the "cat" thread and the "you will buy a Glock" thread seem to be doing rather well. And we all hate Hillary. Everyone here is more than willing to help each other out and look out for each other in a million different ways.

Imagine if this was a cooking forum.
People from all different backgrounds- more so in ideology, political leanings.
Imagine the fights between us and the "Orange man bad" assholes!

Now multiply that by a million- Facebook

Imagine a party where your friends get to bring all of their friends, and their friends friends... How many morons do you think are going to show up? - Facebook.

Imagine the fun at that party where they can get as high, drunk and stupid as they want. - Facebook

Imagine that party with all the high, drunk idiots listen to someone that is just slightly less drunk, high and stupid, then get to regurgitate that information in a "I'm on the pulpit, it's my turn to speak, AND YOU WILL LISTEN," way... - Facebook

Count me out.

Edit:

Dick move. That's on me. I'd like to say it was because I didn't know ersatzknarf's wife was from another country (even though I didn't), I shouldn't have said what I said in any case.

Apologies to all, especially ersatzknarf. Sometimes, I forget that I consider everyone a friend here, and should treat them as such.
