My boss calls me to come in "as soon as possible" instead of my usual start time of 4:00p.m. So, I drop what I was doing, show up 2 hours early (30 minutes after he called) and what do I get? A "hey, thanks for dropping everything and coming in early?" Nope, I get a "looks like you didn't shave today." Seriously jackass? Yeah, you're right, I didn't. But I did yesterday, it's not like I look like Grizzly Adams.

Shoot, I go to work all the time having not shaved for 3 days and with my shirt not tucked in. Boss sounds a bit jerkish.

Yeah, he is. I told him I'd be glad to go back home for another 2 hours, and that when I came back I'd be sure to be freshly shorn. He said "ha, I was just kidding with ya." No you weren't, you just forgot that I was one of teh few people that work for you that actually has a spine.

Its a training exercise. He's teaching you to not give a shit. You failed this cycle. But you won't next time. As soon as possible in the future will be when you get damned good and ready, Including the extra time to shower and shave, and then get dressed. All at your leisure. Live and learn.

if you haven't already, just take a deep breath... and put things in perspective. your boss knows he can count on you because that is part of who you are; he is a jerk but your dependability and flexibility will work for you in your life's journey. wisdom don't come cheap as you already know. sometimes the crap i put up with in the workplace makes me scratch my head, and i am the supervisor.... good luck with this and other impossible, improbable situations.

I've worked for managers like that before. Some of them ride you "jokingly" on a continual basis... and then claim that you have a bad attitude and are not a "people person". I AM a PEOPLE person. I'm just not an ASSHOLE person.

I don't know why, and I certainly don't mean it in any insulting fashion but for whatever reason when I read the above it reminded me of the scene from Office Space where Tom was telling the Bob's that he had "People Skills". It is one of my favorite parts of the movie. I HAVE PEOPLE SKILLS, Can't you see that... I got screwed with like that for years. One day I noticed a black female on the front desk with multiple piercings and a nose ring. I checked regs and found out they had changed. I grew a full face beard and pierced an ear. They threatened me with discipline and I dared them to do it, with a stack of insta-print photos of other employees in my shirt pocket. Yeah, it took them 18 years to give me a shitty attitude, but they finally did. Good for them.
