I have a hard time accepting .380 as well. I have a P230 I never shoot because ammo is too expensive I also don't understand why no one makes a tiny 9mm. A .380 is only about 2mm shorter right?

I believe the 380 is also referred to as the 9mm Kurz.

In an attempt to level the playing field just a bit, here are few possible pro-.380acp/9mmK/9mmCorto suggestions...

There really are little bitty .32 size .380s that are smaller than all but the ultra expensive Rohrbaugh 9mmP. So, small .380s actually do serve a practical purpose; when us testosterone laden knuckledraggers aren't carrying our 40 ounce 5" 1911s concealed in our Speedos to impress the women on South Beach Eek.

There are lots of folks who use vintage .380s because that is what they carried and trusted their lives to for centuries...when there wasn't anything better in a deep concealement bottomfeeder. Some folks even got pretty fair with 'em too, and that is generally considered a relatively good thing huh Wink?

Some folks work places where they are seen as the "Squad/Shift/Precinct/Department Gun Qu##r". Who would want to lose such a respected identifier? To keep it intact one must be able to actually secure that .380 in that evidence bag in an unloaded, safe and/or disassembled condition at the crime scene...without any unexpected loud noises Wink.

Some folks have a need to be familiar with loaned/issued/pick-up weapons that might just turn up in the particular sh*thole they happen to be sent to Cool. You'd be surprised to no end what you might be handed by your "foreign counterpart" in a country where "Military Calibers" are Forbidden/الفعل/запрещенный/prohibido Eek.

There are also folks who collect/accumulate guns as a hobby, and when you do such silly things, a .380 or two will find its way into the safe no matter how high you have your .380 filter set. Some folks actually shoot what they keep in their safe(s), imagine that Eek?

Finally, as is often pointed out here and on other gun forums; Thank God we, as Americans, have this absolutely sacred right to like whatever guns we...well...like Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin.

My p232 is my daily carry. I have plenty of 380 but am still conservative when expending practice ammo.
Good gun. My pal just bought a P232 TT on the forum.

The closest thing I have to a .380 is my 9x18 makarov - it is too underpowered for me to carry

I like my P232 it's my daily carry. I feel just fine with the caliber.

The price of .380 ammo has risen drastically, but I stocked up at Dick's sporting goods back when the price was around $9. Now they're selling .380 for around $18!

Aye. I have a few hundred round for my .380. I don't like shooting my Kel-Tec for fun but it works well for pocket carry.

It's at "Cheaper than Dirt", that's your first mistake.

You don't have to pay $50/50rds unless you WANT to:

PMC .380 Auto Ammo $17.5/50

Lots of other places cheaper than CTD, too.

I mean, you see a high price one place and decided to ditch all your guns in that caliber? If you're shopping CTD you'll be selling ALL your guns...

At the risk of being called a liar, I want to tell you one of my local dealers just got several cases of .380 PMC90gn Blazer brass 95's (I could have the weights reversed) $16 & $17 a box. Case prices are available too.

I only have one 380 ACP. I bought a Taurus PT58HC in May of this year. I had a nice supply of 380 ammo I bought back in 2008 before the election ($9.99 a box). Last Sunday, I got two 50rd boxes of Rem UMC 380 at my local Farm & Fleet. Price was $16 a box.

I don't understand larger guns in this caliber, but I assume that's not the market that's driving the .380 shortage.

The Kahr PM9 is daaaamn close.

I just bought a PM9 and an LCP and I can say, no they are not.

It is a "seasonal" cartridge. That is, the ammo manufacturers make it on the same lines as the 9mm. They normally set up for 380, run for a few weeks, and won't make anymore for awhile.

With the demand at record levels for 9mm, no volume manufacturer will pause 9mm production to make 380. Add to this the upsurge in 380 demand due to the wildly successful launch of the Ruger LCP, and you have a perfect storm for massive 380 shortages. Because of the acute shortage, prices are inflated.

I believe the ammo shortage has about run its course. The ammo glut is just over the horizon.

I did not know this ... thanks for the knowledge, amigo! Wink

The real sad part, is that they are paying the same price for that ammo that they did a year ago. Since last year, the wholesale price of ammo really hasn't gone up a lot. Most of these places are just F'ing people.

The real sad part, is that we have people buying Ruger LCP and Kel Tec and using them are target shooting gun. We have dumb shit coming in the store and buying ammo for target shooting. I dont know what the life is of a Kel Tec or LCP, but I dont think they are made to shoot every week.

I debated along time about getting a 380. Came across one for sale here on the forum a week or so ago, an LCP. Went ahead and bought it, hey, it's another gun to add to the safe. Not a huge fan of the sights, but a nice little weapon none the less.
