Seeker of SIG Truth |
Has everyone forgotten how bad CTD was a few months ago with a box of .380 Blazer? Wasn't it around $100 for 50 round box.
Everyone was leaving customer review comments on the page but the negatives were not getting through so everyone started leaving ridiculously over exaggerated positive comments. Until they took them all down and marked the ammo as sold out. The comments were hilarious. By the way, just this past weekend in NY I spotted 4 100 round boxes of Winchester at the Wal-Mart near the Great Northern Mall for under 30 a box. They had 6 boxes on the shelf that I could see. I was in town visiting family and was pretty sure you need a NY pistol permit to buy pistol calibers in NY so I didn't grab them. Besides I already have around 350 rounds of WWB at home. It's out there for reasonable prices if you look. Part of the reason for the shortage is the new demand since the election, the new crop of .380 pistols, and the fact that the ammo companies make .380 on the same production line as their 9mm and with the high demand for 9mm they were reluctant to stop and reset for a run of .380. |

Have you seen a Rohrbaugh 9mm? Smaller than most .380's available. Pricey, but a nice carry. "Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem" - Ronald Reagan "Only Crooked Politicians Fear Armed Citizens" - Bumper Sticker |

Rohrbaugh has been my pocket CCW for years. I wouldn't carry a .380 if the ammo was free. ------------------ Join my free no signature club... |

It is a "seasonal" cartridge. That is, the ammo manufacturers make it on the same lines as the 9mm. They normally set up for 380, run for a few weeks, and won't make anymore for awhile. With the demand at record levels for 9mm, no volume manufacturer will pause 9mm production to make 380. Add to this the upsurge in 380 demand due to the wildly successful launch of the Ruger LCP, and you have a perfect storm for massive 380 shortages. Because of the acute shortage, prices are inflated. I believe the ammo shortage has about run its course. The ammo glut is just over the horizon. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope. |

Don't post much but had to respond. CTD in "Foat Wurth" must be basing their price on the dirt around the stockyards as it is mixed with a very special fertilizer contributed by the livestock. Bawhahaha CTD is a BIG rip-off! |

Went shooting the P230 and LCP yesterday. My range had boxes of MagTech for $23.00 a box. Didn't bother me a bit. I had a problem paying $21.00 for 9mm though, but I still did.

I don't know why anyone fools with the 380 anymore. Sure, 20 years ago...it made some sense but not today.
First, there is the ammo cost issue....yes..a total deal killer. Second, we have tons of great small 9mms to choose from. This opens up not only cheaper and easier to find ammo but more powerful rounds, too. Third, there are also many 9x18mm small pistols out there that are cheaper than the 380 guns and ammo is still cheaper and more powerful than the 380. So yeah...when you add all this up...I cannot figure out why anyone fools with the 380 caliber anymore. I don't blame you for ditching it. I never owned one and probably never will. - brickboy240 |

Because there is no* 9mm gun that will fit in a jeans front pocket like a P3AT or a LCP. No Glock, no Kahr, et al. These guns in .380 chambering simply offer a feature that no* 9mm currently does. I don't understand larger guns in this caliber, but I assume that's not the market that's driving the .380 shortage. *I've never tried a Rohrbaugh, but at $1K (and, presumably, a pretty punishing recoil) I won't any time soon, either. |

Not in my experience, and I tried 'em all (except for that Rohrbaugh) before settling on the P3AT. And I wear my jeans pretty relaxed, not like this: |

That pretty much sums it up. After owning a Kahr E9 for many years, I have learned how to hide it. Now there are better models, the Kahr PM9 or the CW9 if you are on a budget, and the Rohrbaugh for those with the funds. 380 is just too wimpy for my tastes. -------------------------- Proud owner of a P226(.40), P226(9MM) and P220(45ACP) |

I finally parted with my P232's and got an LCP. I figured the P232 was just too big for a .380 and the LCP was just right. Thankfully, I can still find Blazer and some other brands around here for around $13.50-$16 a box. Higher than it used to be, but I also don't run a huge amount of rounds through my LCP as I have with the P232 and previous Beretta 85. 300rnds of .380 now lasts me a LONG time...

My take on this, does any body really go to the range to or otherwise "plink" with a .380? I know I don't, too damn expensive. I keep my .380 (Bersa Thunder) because it is small and just right as a bedside pistol. I have exactly one box of factory Winchester ammo for it. I take it approximately once a year to the range and fire their reloads for practice and to make sure the gun functions without problems. That is it though. Otherwise, I plink with my .22s and sometimes my 9MM SIG 2022. The high price of .380 ammo isn't a factor to me.

Your leaving .380's because your deal finding ability is very bad? |

I have, but pretty much dismissed them due to price. They do seem nice, tho. ______________________________________________________ Makin' my way, the only way I know how...and that's just a little bit more than the law will allow. |

So, any of you 380 haters have a nice pre-68 Walther PPK you want to toss my way? I have a 7.65 that is about my favorite pistol, and wouldn't mind upgrading.
