rtquigRV Insurance policy
About 6 weeks ago I received a letter from the insurance agency that covers my RV trailer policy. The letter said the company (National Interstate) that I had for the last 6 years sold out and if I wanted, Liberty Mutual was starting a division for RV insurance. Liberty sent a very vague policy for me to read that clearly was an auto policy that was rewritten to cover RV's but didn't contain a lot of information such as emergency road side assistance. I looked at a few other companies but still had time to purchase a new policy.
Yesterday, my agency sent another letter stating after looking at other companies, they thought Progressive has almost the same policy as I had with National Interstate Insurance. After calling my agent on the phone, I felt they were correct, Progressive would be a good policy for me. My agent suggested that I call Liberty Mutual and tell them I don't want their policy. I thought it was not necessary since I had never asked Liberty for a quote, but what the heck, call anyway so there would be no confusion. I had not received a bill or payment request from Liberty, just their quote.
I called Liberty Mutual and told them out of courtesy that I would not need their policy. Liberty replied that since they quoted the policy in my wife's name they had to talk to her. I told them she is not available as she was out and could not speak. If you read my post in the "Lounge" you will understand where she was.
Anyway, they won't cancel the policy we never had because I am not listed on the policy we don't have. I felt like I was being Punked with the run around. Never had the policy, don't want the policy, just being courteous in telling you not to send me a bill and waste your time. After 15 minutes of going round and round Liberty finally agreed to cancel a policy we never had.

kent jYou might want to get a quote from Good Sam Insurance. They were substantially less on our motorhome.

Yeah, right. Maybe the person you talked with used to work for SiriusXM. A long time ago, I called to cancel a credit card. I got pawned off to a manager who wanted me to keep the credit card open. He thought he was going to wear me out. At that point, I put him on speakerphone and continued to let him speak while I did other things. He got the hint soon enough and cancelled my credit card.

I had looked at Good Sam and they were a possibility. Some people on the RV Net forum weren't thrilled with the Good Sam Policy.
$220 a year from Progressive.

Chris AnchorI insure my 5th wheel with Eire for $228 a year at a value of trailer and property at $50K combined. Seems to be fair plus I know Erie pays if needed. Chris

CamperI had the same insurance company (Interstate) through Good Sam and they sent me a replacement policy from another company that was $400.00 more than the the Good Sam policy for my 5th wheel which is parked year round at a campground. I went through another company and got my insurance for $500.00 less than the new Good Sam company.

They asked me if my trailer would be parked year round in a camp ground, saying it would cost more if I did.

jejbSorry to hear about the issues cancelling the policy you never asked for. That's be frustrating as hell!
We have National Interstate insurance on our diesel pusher, and have not received any notification that anything has changed. May have to give them a call.

My Policy with National Interstate expires on 2/25 so maybe closer to renewal time you will get notified. I received my first notice from my agent around Christmas.

jejbYep, go the letter on Saturday. That sucks. Says they are recommending someone else, Safeco or something like that. Need to do some calling around, it seems.

rtquigWhen I went with the recommended Progressive Policy, I think I should have called more people myself rather than let the agency I deal with find a better policy. Well, it's a done deal, next year I can get a different policy if I want. I don't take many trips with the trailer and would like to trade it in for something smaller since the kids don't really want to go on all the trips with us.

henryaz No RV insurance here, but we maintain the Good Sam emergency roadside assistance policy. It covers all vehicles in our family (3).
