The S.O and I went to the movies today, and lo and behold, in the last two weeks they've posted the front doors with the proper 30.06 verbiage....

I say technically defective because the enabling statute requires signage to have block letters, at least 1" high.........this sign did not have block letters, and while the capital letters were 1" tall, the lower case letters were not. So we looked at each other, decided that we weren't planning on brandishing and entered anyways.

I'm half-tempted to go back up there, ask to speak to the manager and point out to him that his signage is not correct and should be removed...I won't mostly because I'd rather leave that wiggle room available to others should they find themselves caught up in the "ban the guns" hysteria.

However, I still intend to go up there to register my objection to this action, to inquire as to whether this means that AMC and he are absolutely guaranteeing the safety of their patrons, and to make sure that he's aware that they've lost my business and will be publicizing as much as possible their wrong-headed stance.

But for damned sure, today was the last time I or any of the rest of my family do business with them!!!!! Mad

seems like it would be uncomfortable and distracting to have a gun on your person while sitting in a seat for two hours+.

what position do you carry in that allows that?

I'd be ranting if the sign was _correct_.

Don't say anything to anyone, they might fix it. Until they do, as I understand it, the sign is legally insufficient and you're clear to carry there.

I just saw Dark Knight with my P225 IWB at 2:30.

Figure out what works for you, the whole point is to have your gun with you not to leave it at home.

I saw the dark knight yesterday with a P228 @ 11 o'clock, wasn't uncomfortable at all.

A sign that doesn't meet all of the requirements isn't "technically defective", it's defective period. This is an area of the Tx statute that's black and white. If the sign doesn't meet the legal requirements, then it's not a legal notice and therefore doesn't mean a damn thing.

Keep your mouth shut and carry anyway...Everyone knows the manager will either tell you that there's nothing to worry about, as there are always cops on duty (lol) or he'll cite company policy and then you're fucked because they'll fix the sign.

PS-dark knight rocks*, and I watched it in IMAX with a p6 carried "mexican" @ 3 o'clock.

*am I the only one that noticed the anti-gun message in that movie?

AMC theaters suck. I had enough of them in Arizona. Harkins theaters were the place to go, at least they were gun supporters and it was not company policy to ban handguns.

I went to a theater here in Austin, and its only sign was a "no weapons allowed" sign. I carried my P228 in a Kramer @ 3:15 just fine.

I was in Florida in March and we went to a movie. The S&W was poking me in the ribs, but it was worth it.

California says....

As long as you let ME have the armrest, carry any damn thing you want to.

I thought Kali was bad, but I can't imagine being a State sanctioned CCW (or whatever you care to call it) and still have to deal with this crap.

Shiga,

That was pretty much my conclusion as well. Still, I can think of a few judges that I'd not like hearing such a case here in Harris County...they're the type that are prone to "close is good enough" decisions and I don't have the scratch just laying around to be the test case, know what I mean? Smile

I still went in and saw the movie - Mummy III - but that's the last time I'll be seeing anything there.

I did speak to the Mgr...and yes, I got the "corporate" blow-off. He really wasn't too thrilled with his theater being referred to as a "Gun-free victim's zone"...

Why even do business with an anti concealed carry business? Saying their sign is invalid is just a cop out. Tell them you won't be back. Then go someplace else.

Just under half of my employees do this for over 40 hours week. Hell, I bet I am sitting on my butt for two hours at a time at my desk somedays, and when I am not I am sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle for hours on end. 3:00 to 3:30, although OWB can be more comfortable than IWB.

At least AMC is doing the right thing and participating in the government's e-verify program to make sure all its employees have valid social security numbers. They are one of the few corporations that have publicly denounced illegal immigration. And therefore I gladly go to their theaters.

Seems like having someone come into the theater and blowing my ass away would be a little more uncomfortable and distracting then sitting in a seat for 2 hours with a gun on. I regularly sit for extended periods of time while carrying a concealed weapon. You never know when or where something bad might happen, why not be prepared all the time. Of course we don't want to violate any laws.

I think I would actually be more uncomfortable and distracted without it. trying to keep an eye on all the crazy's is bad enough either way.
