Our Credit Union Got Rid Of Human Tellers At Drive-Through!
Do you guys use the drive-through at the bank? For my wife who handles the finances in our family, it's a must with a very active nearly-3 year old boy and a 6 month old infant. She just cannot unload all them and go into our credit union to make a deposit or cash a check, etc.

This Saturday she drives up to use it and finds out that our credit union (Citadel Federal) has decided to, without notifying anyone, to drop the human tellers and force everyone to use their extremely slow and clunky ATM to do anything.

She's pissed and now wants to find a new bank, but I suspect that they are all doing it to save a buck nowadays.

That is a shitty change in service, but not unexpected from what we've seen of banks lately.

Who deposits checks at a bank any more? Unless it's a really big one?

Almost every bank has phone app to handle this without loading the kids up to begin with. I've lived for 6 months in a state that doesn't even have a branch for my bank...... yes I'll change eventually.

We get a check from my parents for half the phone bill as they are on our family plan and my wife's PT job still issues paper paychecks.

I know, right? Bank apps allow you to sign and deposit your check from you phone.

Maybe the OP has a "cash business"..?

In which case you might want to get help...

The Chase bank i go to has 3 lanes for drive thru. But they closed down all but the face-to-face one- dont even open the tube ones now. The ATM has check and cash deposit features. Most banks even have online check deposits now - just snap a picture of the check and its processed. But im also 100% fine with less personal interaction, so i use the ATM more unless i need more than $500 withdrawn.

Last i checked Our credit union still has a teller but we rarely go there.

I just looked up and confirmed that our CU does offer this via their app, I've never used it but I guess that's how we will do it going forward.

Drive-through? You're lucky to have one.

My credit union does have them at some branches, but the only branch anywhere near me is located in a strip mall and there is no drive-through.

If I don't want to go inside and wait in line, I have two choices:
  1. Use the app that takes a picture of the check and makes the deposit remotely. This is convenient, I can do it in my underwear from the comfort of my own home, but the downside is they put a hold on it for three business days.

  2. Endorse the check for deposit, stick it in an envelope, and drop it in the night deposit slot. No hold on the check when I do it this way.

Honestly, I didn't know about it until a friend of the family was over and we wrote her a check for something. She signed it and deposited it right in front of our eyes.

The only time I'll go to the bank is to make larger cash or check deposits / withdrawals - simply because I want to ensure it isn't fucked up. That and some apps won't take USPS Money Orders.

Thinking about this, also recalled that just before we left TX many Chase branches had replaced teller windows INSIDE the branch with an ATM. Along with a door person directing you to them instead of a the missing humans.

Most of the deposit apps have a dollar limit per day and per item as well. Chase is $5,000 I believe.

I haven't used a drive-thru in 4-5 years. Not even sure what one would use them for nowadays. Only been inside my bank three times in same period, all three times to use their notary.

Very seldom do I go inside the lobby anymore; and when I do, I’ve had to wait for the 20- & 30-something millennials to take time out from their busy day of talking to each other or their pretend make-work counting & balancing of their money drawer. Gringott’s Bank with their goblins would be quicker. Mad

I do use the drive-thru ATM to pull cash occasionally, and yes, I check for the scammer-skimmer card readers before inserting my card.

Yeah, and look at how many stores are pushing us to the self-serve checkout line? Employees are kinda expensive, then throw in the March towards the 'living wage'.

Just more change coming. Yes, I like a real teller available when I need something, besides the simple ATM withdrawal or a deposit.

The new hires at my credit union make me wish I could deal with an ATM at the drive-through. I don't know how they got a job at a bank because numbers aren't their forte. Roll Eyes

I go to town twice a week, and drive right by the bank, so if I have a deposit or something to cash, I use the drive-through. Chase branch in a small town, I'm always greeted by "Hello Henry".

They have changed from having a dedicated drive-through teller, to having the line tellers take drive-through transactions as they can. A bit slower sometimes, but not much.

With Yobama care and more calls to increase wages, why would this surprise anyone???

I guess I don't know what else to do at a bank besides deposit or withdraw on a regular basis - sure, you can get loans, do the notary thing, use the safe deposit box - but those are all occasional things.

Several Chase branches by me have closed their drive thru section also. Not all of them though.

My credit union went to these service island at some branches instead of the teller windows. I thought to myself, how much easier it would be to rob a bank with the cash drawer at the island. Eek

I assume they think it is a more personal service. Just give me the winnmens with the big boobs and forget about the island idea. Big Grin

just about every bank today have apps to let you deposit checks. When the check amounts happen to be larger than the allowed limit, I called them up and asked that they raise the limit for me and they do.

My wife still likes to physically go inside the bank to deposit checks or withdraw money. I tolds her about the app on her phone which I added. She said she prefers to talk with a real live person. I said she can talk to me. She said that's why she goes inside the bank.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

The Bank of America branches closed their drive through years ago around here.

My banks all provide the ability to deposit a check via a smartphone. Works great and the deposit is accepted within minutes.

The newest trend in banking is completely automated branches. They have ATM style machines, and if needed, you can video conference with an off-site teller.
