I like to find out where they're planning to go so I can look up requirements for moving there. Turns out Orange Man Bad Butthurt Syndrome isn't a good enough reason in most places. And in fact they want you to have some useful skills, maybe even a job lined up, so they know you're not a deadbeat looking to suckle on their welfare teat. They're suffering from more than just TDS.
I'd sign them up for international flight updates and discounts with multiple airlines. Maybe put out a Tip Jar on the kitchen counter to help with their expenses.
