It seems to be more prevalent lately. That annoying increasing level of background music on tv drama shows, often just before a commercial. It drowns out the characters last few words.

How old are you?

Might just be the way which your speakers/TV are processing the soundtrack.

If you're watching regular TV, might not apply. If you're watching a DVD or Blu-Ray, then you're probably set up for a 7.1 or 7.2 (coming out of the player) with your TV/soundbar set up for 2.0 or 2.1.

Because of this type scenario, the center channel might be a bit muted. If this is the case, adjusting the output of the player may solve the issue.

Thanks for your response. We have an older YAMAHA YAS-101 sound bar, 30w audio output. The manual says it's 2.2, with simulated 7.1 surround sound(?) It's connected to a SHARP Equos, 35w audio output. We also have a separate YAMAHA subwoofer. The tv has ARC, optic and HDMI so it can apparently accept newer soundbars.

This is experienced with tv programming, no DVD or Blu-Ray. We don't experience it when watching Prime programs. The tv speakers are muted as we were experiencing a reverberation between the soundbar and tv speakers.

Soundbar recommendations would be appreciated. Current specs are 35"L x 4.5"D x 4"H. Something more compact would be fine.

Check your TV settings. There might be a option to help control the volume spikes.

I'm checking into that now. Funny thing is this doesn't occur during any other type of programming. It's drama music.
