I'm sure they have a quota of particular types of searches they must conduct every hour or shift...

and it's all kabuki theater....

I don't hate flying, I just hate the process to fly.

TSA = Totally Stupid Assholes.

I wish there was a way to fire all of them and make security the responsibility of local law enforcement. And to think those richards actually fancy themselves as federal agents. Roll Eyes

That would be a challenging 1 day drive even for me. I can routinely do 18-19 hour drives but those couple/few more hours can make a huge difference.

I'm sure I could do a 21-22 hour drive with a good co-driver without much difficulty.

The last time I flew was in 2009. (to-from Seattle) My knee replacement sets off the metal detector so they send me over to get wanded and pat down.
TSA guy says, Hold your arms out to the side and stand with your feet shoulder width apart and starts to pat me down.
I ask him while he's checking my groin area, "Am I going to need a cigarette and a shower when we're done?"
That gets a grin from him and he says, No, we're not going that far.
I say, "Oh...so you want to pretend we're married!"
That got a full on laugh from the TSA guy. Smile (I hope he went on to a better job)

These days I'd probably get stuck in a room, never make my flight and get sued for sexual harassment.

If anyone regularly travels to NY or Canada, sign up for nexus.

It's Global Entry, but for $50.

It's so much easier, as you just stop by the offices in NY, Canada, or a Canadian airport.

10 mins and bobs your uncle.

I visited while waiting for a connecting flight.

I just got my new Carbon Fiber belt today, I don't know why I waited so long to look into buying one of these. It the thing I hate most in airports, removing my belt. I'm very used to the pat downs, I've just given in to it. I didn't know why i was always getting pat downs until my last trip to Finland where I finally saw the screen from the scanner. The scanner was showing this huge patch on my torso and my leg, and I knew instantly that the scanner was finding the two titanium plates but the scanner is creating a shadow or something making it look like some massive object strapped to me. I have a 4 inch plate on my collar bone and one in my leg from a cycle accident, I never had them removed after healing because why pay for another surgery. So I have to deal with pat downs but I don't have to deal with removing my belt and holding my pants up with shoes in hand anymore, LOL.

That always gets to me and I bristle every time. Talk about taking your dignity away.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

While I agree that it is money well spent, I think it’s an extotion payment to go through security the way it should be done for all.
