My first world problem for December.

Please learn how to yawn quietly. Whether on the plane, in the waiting room or in line at the store, cover your mouth and leave the vocal cords out of the process.

I agree. Volume enhanced sneezes are also pretty annoying.

You guys do realize there might be a natural range between the folks with a barely audible "ph" to others who for unknown reasons just sometimes sneeze with tremendous pressure and, unavoidably, noise?

I'm closer to the loud end of that spectrum when I do occasionally sneeze and I promise you there is nothing "enhanced" about it. I don't even know what that means or how one would achieve it.....

I'm one of those too. My sneezes are ridiculously powerful. If I try to bite them back, I literally see stars, and it makes my entire body shoot with pain for 20 seconds or so.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I agree as I am a loud sneezer too. Just don’t vocalize the yawns.

Geez, there's a guy where I used to work that had "enhanced" sneezes. It was quite startling.

I don't know about MNSIG, but I'm referring to those who seem to feel the need to turn a sneeze into a truncated YELL or LOUD BARK/YELP.

I'd be sitting there, mind deep in solving some problem or coding something up, and there he'd go, half startling me out of my chair.

There are those that engage the vocal cords for a definite "Ahhh-chooo" beyond the expulsion of air that is natural.

Some take it even further, with a loud "AAAHHHH-CHOOOOO-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE". I used to work with a guy like that. Drove me bonkers.

I ran into a loud yawner recently at the laundromat. The only other person in there at the time besides myself, and he had to be annoying.

I am also a loud sneezer, always three to five at a time with vocal accompaniment. All this talk about this reminded me of an early Roseanne episode where the titular character had a neighbor whose sneezes sounded like "ptt-CHEE." Roseanne remarked, "God, even her sneezes are uptight!" Big Grin

I'll count myself lucky to have never run across that. I'd have to be in the "enhanced" camp then too. Crazy.

Yes, and if it bothers someone, that's really their problem. Not mine. There's other, way more meaningful things to get your panties twisted over.
