Convince me that these outfits aren't enabling both legal and illegal immigrants in resisting assimilation. Really pisses me off!

If it comes down to standing on principle vs making money, especially if the principles in question are far from universally shared, what do you think most companies would do?

When I was working in Spain I made sure to take a dictionary with me when I went shopping.

We lived a year in Central Mexico. You won’t find much English there unless your in a tourist restaurant.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." The companies are only concerned with enabling the flow of money going to them.

I'm used to getting products with at least 10 languages in the manual.

Probably because they sell and ship their products internationally and don't want to have seperate packaging for every region.

Yeah, and all those goods with French on the label are just catering to the illegal Canuckistan immigrants. Big Grin

Scrambled (one-word punchline to a joke that my uncle told me back around 1950).

We get quite a few products here that have English and French as the two languages on them. I guess it's stuff grown in Canada. Blueberries and always English/French. But you can almost learn Spanish by making a trip to the grocery and noting what word corresponds to what product, or what instructions on the package correspond.

Why bother? Are those people entering illegally literate in any language? It’s not like Mexico’s valedictorians are crossing in the dead of night.

Appreciate this. Did some checking about several of the products I continue to run into that have prominent Spanish with smaller English wording and found them to be listed among manufacturers' international offerings on their web sites. Still seems so odd in the middle of "flyover country."

And FWIW the Sioux language is dying out although there is a concerted effort around here to teach the young Native children to keep it alive. There are several TV/Radio public information spots (e.g. suicide prevention, etc.) that utilize spoken Lahcotah.

And as for labels, Reservation company products like Wooden Knife Co's Indian Fry Bread Mix (great stuff) is only in all English, no Español. Big Grin
