It is me or does O saluting seem in poor taste since he never served?

Just about everything "The Chosen One" does is in bad taste.

He is the Commander-in-Chief as already stated.
To his credit though, at least his salute is "more correct" than the active duty guy next to him. That one needs to be retrained. ___________________________________________________ The sunrise is proof yesterday was real. Fear is Satan's weapon of choice. |

Ironically, his salute is better executed than the Major General right next to him.

It's funny...that was the first thing I noticed. I was thinking that O's salute was actually pretty good looking for someone who has never served. I'll give him credit for at least making the effort to give a proper salute, for whatever that's worth. At least he didn't look like this idiot who DID serve... __________________________ "It pays to be a winner." |

+1 He looks pretty sharp considering it's new to him. It seems like most Generals I've seen have sloppy salutes. I guess they're tired of doing it. Is it my imagination or is that General's flash right over his nose?? The more I know, the less I understand Don Henley |

It is absolutely appropriate for the Commander in Chief.
That said, I am sure a lot of people will see a certain hypocrisy and find the whole thing leaves a bad taste. I does for me, because at the same time this is going on, he is "dithering," in Afghanistan,(as Dick Cheney so eloquently put it) and IMO failing to support the troops. Besides, I think most of us know how people from the looney left like Obama view the military. I always used to bristle when Clinton placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns on Memorial Day too. It was part of his role as Commander in Chief, but it still bugged me. _______________________________________________________________________________ “Stand your ground. Officers NEVER salute correctly. Ever. I think it's a requirement or something. I don't know what happened in the split second before or after the pic, but in the pic Obama's salute is correct. How about that. People were mad at Reagan for saluting, even tho he served. "I am a Soldier. I fight where I'm told and I win where I fight." GEN George S. Patton, Jr. |

I'm sure Obama practiced quite a bit before unveiling his salute in public... but to his credit, his is better than GI Joe next to him...
But you have never seen a sloppy salute until you see some Admirals at a change of command... you'd think that they were in the Royal Navy! |

Unfortunately, that is correct. POTUS actually has a decent salute (unlike that of Mr Clinton). What's with the jutted-out jaw, though? Makes him look really smug. . . No arsenal is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. Ronald Reagan |

Cut the man some slack, can you? He got up in the middle of the night to pay his respects when the remains of these fine men were returned to the US. He writes a personal letter to every family that loses a warrior, and has been carefully thinking through the alternatives for prosecuting the War in Afganistan. His correct salute "in poor taste"? Sheesh.
Its only a hill, if you think its a hill. . . |

Well, when President Bush (43) did this, he did it in private with NO cameras/reporters around. It makes many of us think this is just a photo-op to make him look good amid criticism over 'dithering' in regards to war policy in Afghanistan. I recall when he was campaigning over in Germany just a bit over a year ago, he had the opportunity to visit some wounded soldiers in the Landstuhl Army Hospital. As a US Senator, he had the right and obligation to do so. He declined. The reason his campaign people gave? They wouldn't allow the reporters in with him. Can't show your respect to those who have sacrificed blood and flesh to their country if you can't get a photo-op out of the deal in return, I guess. Apparently, this is only worth his time if there is somebody there to take his picture. . . No arsenal is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. Ronald Reagan |

There, fixed it for ya! Make no mistake, I FIRMLY believe the ONLY reason he went was to get his picture taken. __________________________ "It pays to be a winner." |

Time to rehash the old Bush joke. They're in a boat and someone's hat blows off. Obammie stands up, steps out of the boat and walks over to retrieve the hat. He walks on water and gives the other person his hat. The conservative press (which I'm probably part of) says "Obammie can't swim." All the while the leftists are proclaiming "our savior walks on water." Unrepentant ammo hoarder |

...and made sure plenty of press was around to note his noble sacrifice.
...instead of just winning the damn thing. The commander on the ground has told the CinC what is needed to successfully prosecute the war. Obama either needs to give McCrystal what he needs to accomplish his mission, or relieve him of the responsibility. "I am a Soldier. I fight where I'm told and I win where I fight." GEN George S. Patton, Jr. |

Agreed 1000% I find it sickening that Obama would use the caskets of our dead soldiers and Marines as props in a photo op! His dithering on the whole Afghanistan issue is precisely why more of these caskets are arriving at Dover than ever before! link Obamacare: On it's way to DOA. |

I don't understand why some folks think that one needs to be military in order to offer a salute. It's not some exclusive "club" handshake thing.
It's an act of respect. If I want to salute the flag, I will do so. If I want to pay respect to returning military vets, a salute would not be inappropriate. |
