And the lazy IT guy left with the rest of the ENTIRE company to go to a stupid ball game.
And guess who got asked to stay and fix the server.
Mad

I want him gone.
Tomorrow.

Oh Mark, it was a WD drive that failed. Roll Eyes

It's a stand alone.
And mr IT guy DIDN'T run a backup on it or mirror the data.

Well lemme give props to an old G4 workstation.
I remove the IDE drive and stuck it in the Mac.
It mounted and I backed up ALL of the data.
Mr. IT guy didn't have a clue on how to recover the data.(or so he played so he could go to a damn ballgame)
My discarded G4 has saved the day.
I will move the data to another box in the morning.

And put an ad in for another IT guy.

SEJ, I am working.
I'm listening to the drive clitterclack as it surrenders the data. Razz

I've been hearing a lot of these stories lately. Where are these companies where one can simply blow off their responsibilities?

I have no idea how to get the no responsibility position.
It seem I'm ALWAYS stuck mopping up after incompetence.
Well, I've survived workforce reductions, mergers and buyouts over the past 11 years.
I guess that counts for something.

Bad track record with WD eh? I must be lucky. My "GFDI that did not just happen!" streak has been with anything labeled Maxtor.

I had two seagates die on me in 1 year. I'm trying a Western Digital. It was only $64.00.

All brands, and all models go Tango Uniform, every hour of every day.

If you want, you can monitor spindle speed and set some alerts.

All hard drives have a chance of failure, it decreases the longer it continues to live. Once you get over a year you have a good one. The only brand I know to be complete crap were the last line of IBM DeathDeskstar drives. I know of 4 that all failed within months.

I have serious concerns with WD. We have had 14 of them die in the last 6 months all of them have been in HP boxes. We have warranties on the computers, we do not replace them with WD, if they can't provide Seagates, we buy them out right.

I have a pair of Maxtor Maxline III 300 gig drives in my home server. I picked them because of their 5 year warranty and especially because of their MTBF rating....one million hours!!
Most drives are rated at 80,000 hours. I don't think they are available in IDE anymore but so far 2 years and going strong!

PC Load Letter??? What the F*ck does that mean!!!

Sorry to hear that... I know what you mean. Our primary DC started crashing on Sunday. Turns out 2 out of the 8 drives in our Raid 5 are bad.

This server does pretty much everything for us... DHCP, DNS, Fileserver so I know what you mean. And guess what... no spares... had to order them yesterday. Should be here today... I hope
