Not BY the grocery store (any more so than usual anyway...) but while I was IN the store.

Wife and I shop once a month. We each have a cart and a list and go our separate ways. Per usual, being male and taking lists literally, I was done well in advance of her, so I parked my cart and wandered over to have a seat in the deli area and wait for her. Sciatica is acting up and standing for extended periods is seriously painful.

We use heavy canvas totes that we paid good money for (like $7.50 each) and have well over a dozen of them. I use two bags to stuff the rest of the bags in and stash them under the cart while shopping.

When she finally showed up, we got in line, I threw the bags up on the conveyor and commenced unloading groceries. Two thoroughly packed full sized carts full of groceries. I load 'em on the conveyor, wife helps the bagger stuff the bags and put them in the cart to lug them out to the truck. By and by, Mrs. PHPaul sez "We ran out of bags."

Say what? We're up to our ass in the damn things, how did we run out? Well, we did buy a lot of groceries (stocking the pantry for Winter) so maybe...

We got home an unloaded the bags and put the groceries away and...waitaminnit...we've only got ONE bag full of bags. No way no how they're all gonna fit in one bag. Plus where's the little red one with the dividers we use to stuff bottled goods in?

Only thing I can figure is someone strolled along and grabbed a bag full of bags off my cart. I called the store on the off chance they might've fallen off the cart, but they hadn't been turned in.

Dagnabbit. Can't trust anybody these days.

Sounds like they also could have fallen off anywhere along the way. That's what you get for running. Razz

Hey, I gotta get to those Cyber Monday-priced green beans!

I called the store and asked if anyone had turned in some shopping bags. As of the time I called, they hadn't.

Shopping once a month I guess you freeze a lot of stuff.

What about Deli meat? I buy Boars Head and don’t like to go much over a week and a half.

Yup, pretty much all the meat gets bought in bulk and then portion-packed and frozen when we get home. Don't do much in the way of deli goods. Hillshire Farms lunch meat is about as close as we come.

OTOH, we just ordered 3 gallons of fresh scallops. Season just opened.
