Popped positive for the ole COVID back on the 18th. Whole family did. Any who... Lost my freaking sense of smell. No biggie right? Then lost taste the next day.

You know how awful it is to eat Thanksgiving and not be able to taste anything?! Left over turkey sandwich? Nadda! I miss taste!

Is it permanent or do the 'scientists/experts' know yet?

Does not appear to be permanent. Most people slowly recover over time.

One of my coworkers that I talk to nearly everyday lost his sense of taste in June and a few days later tested positive for COVID. He was without taste from then until early November, but now it's partially restored.

I lost my smell when I had it. Was actually a great benefit when changing the kid’s diapers. But I also couldn’t smell when it needed to be changed so he may have sat in it for a while before I figured it out. Lol My smell came back a few days to maybe a week after I got over the covid.

My wife and I lost our ability to taste or smell. This was prior to the COVID notice. Our Doctor diagnosed us as having H1N1 Flu Type A. We were ill for some time. This entire Flu issue "Smells".

Back in March or April I thought I had caught it:

My wife made some cold slaw and I tried some... no flavor at all.... then she explained that she has seen on one of the food channels you could substitute yogurt for the mayonnaise......

Mine came back.. I knew I was positive before the results of the test came back .. I went to use Vicks and could not smell it. It was strange. It has been almost 4 weeks and I can smell and taste again..

Lost my sense of smell about 5 years ago, I blame it on the strong acid I use on cleaning calcium buildup in toilets. I can still taste, but not well.

Could be Guillain Barré Syndrome?

I got hit hard with that, couple years ago. Lost all feeling and most of the strength in hands, feet, arms, legs.

A bit over a week in hospital, IVIG transfusions, weeks of physical therapy, I recovered probably 80%, maybe 85%, hit a plateau and that's where I still am.

Balance was affected, I have to be very careful not to fall.

Between asthma and allergies I figure I may have had COVID since about 1982, since I figure that was the last time I could breath and smell. Smile

My wife and I just tested positive. Swab samples were taken last Friday, 12/4. Wife was just sure, or in denial, that it was sinus/cold. She lost her sense of taste and smell on Sunday while waiting for our test results to come back. Reality set in at that moment.

I started coughing the day before Thanksgiving. Progressed to a runny nose and mild sore throat. Got a real bad headache and nausea Tuesday night that stayed through Thursday. We both spend all day in bed on Wednesday.

Also, we both had an elevated resting heart rate. Mine is usually in the high 50’s / low 60’s and was now 75 to 80. It gave both of us an ache and feeling of pressure under our breast bones.

Dr said that due to our age and other health issues, we both qualified for a new treatment that Mercy Health (Ohio)just began a week ago. My wife received an infusion of Bamlanivimab, antibody treatment. It was released by the FDA and is investigational right now. Hopefully I’ll receive my infusion tomorrow. My wife was told that everyone that has received it so far has said that they started feeling better by the next day.

Oh, one more thing.

In bed, the night my wife lost her sense of taste and smell, our Boston did a test to verify it. He was laying next to her, head towards the bottom of the bed. He let loose with one of his usual nasty nasty room clearing farts. My wife heard it and felt the jet of air, and who knows what else, hit her face. She couldn’t smell a thing. The only positive to having Covid!

My quarantine ends in a couple days. Only symptom was loss of most smell and a very mild loss of taste.

If you've got to get it, this is the version to have.
