I cant believe I did it... Today, I traded my 1998, rugged, sure-tested Jeep Cherokee for a... a....a... (I have a hard time saying it) an ECONOMY car!!! Ya know one of those small, tiny tin boxes that gets 40 mpg instead of the 16 mpg that my Jeep got...
I had been driving about 12 miles to work, until just this past month that my company relocated were I work. Now Im driving 70 miles a day round trip. I sure did love that Jeep, this post is in dedication to a great vehicle.

I sure do feel like a "whimp" now.. gonna have to go out and buy another P220 just to make myself feel better I guess...

Wondering if this has happened to anyone else??
Even better, I wonder if any Oil executives have traded their favorte in??

Updated 8-19.... Well, after the first 2 days of driving to work in my...a.....a......a....a..... "Economy car", I averaged 33 miles to the gallon (it even has one of those fancy computers onboard to tell me that). Smile So maybe its not gonna be so bad... I even had fun listening to my new XM Radio.....

I did the same thing, however mine does 14 sec quarters, runs 130 MPH and handles like a sports car and still gets 30 MPG.

And 30 MPG to 40 MPG only saves you 0.83 gallons per hundred miles versus the 2.9 gallons per hundred miles you save going from 16 MPG to 30 MPG.

I did the same thing, but mine does 113 with no problem, gets 30 MPG looks sporty and feels like a luxury car, heated leather seats, Bose Sound system with built in XM radio... Then I shortened my trip to work by moving closer. Big Grin Now I am looking at adding a Jeep to the stable.

After my trusted Jeep Cherokee got splattered, I too opted for something more economical.
A Honda CR-V.
It gets 10 more miles to the gallon.
I do miss the raw torque from the 4 liter engine.
It was bullet proof too.
And after 170,000 miles the only thing that broke was the AC.
It blew a water hose, overheated but got me to a place where I could stop.
The engine didn't self destruct like a Jap engine would.
And it was EASY to work on.

Oh, I'm very familiar with the XX-R engines.
The 6s were originally in Supras and the 4 in Celicas.
I raced Datsuns and a buddy raced Toyotas.
I learned how to replaced LOTS of burned Toyota valves. Big Grin

(and he helped me replace pistons with holes burned through the top of them Eek )

But, my dear pie baking friend, I do not race the little black truck. Razz

For a crazy man I in fact drive quite sedately.

13.2 sec. 1/4 mile
gobs of torque
reliable

GOne are the days we could burn gas with no worry.

Wouldn't a nice new Sig Mosquito be more fitting?

I have a 2006 Corvette 6 speed. We got 33.5 on our interstate drive home with it. These cars are amazing if you drive them gently. In suburban/rural mix driving, I only get 28 with the AC on.

I was just about to sell my RSX and get another 300Z TT, but then I moved further from work and gas prices shot through the roof, simultaneously. That plan changed in a hurry.

Ah well. The RSX will still go 140+ if asked, and now gets 35+ MPG sitting in 6th gear in my new and improved longer commute. I never thought it could get mileage like that before. If only it were RWD.

I know how you feel.

I went from a sweet GMC 1500 Z71 pick up to a Honda CRV (it was the smallest car I fit comfortably in).
The guys at work broke my balls for a couple of weeks saying that it was a girls car so I went out and got a skull and cross bones front license plate to toughen it up a bit Big Grin

I've had the Honda for two years now and I'm finally getting used to it, but I still miss my Z71.

Me too, traded my 22mpg Tacoma for a 39mpg Kia Rio. I only hate this car during deer season. I'll probably have to prop his carcass up in the passenger seat... Eek
