There was another thread in which The Monkey gave step by step instructions for finding your own ass with both hands. Almost complete, but he forgot the flashlight.

...but think of all the stories that that package could tell...at a fireside chat...over a cup of hot chocolate...with friends and package relatives...

The barcode is probably messed up. Humans don't look at things anymore, it will take a person stopping and looking at the actual address on the item to send it on it's way.
I get parcels on my route with the barcode blacked out, because they've been in a loop.

Glad I am not the only one. Always seems to be gun related stuff too. I had a part make two complete circuits of Puget sound once. was from Midway. The barcode was intact, though I suspect that munged barcodes contribute to all of this idiocy. And what munged the barcode if it is not USPS equipment?

Usually my carrier annex and route delivery people are pretty good. Usually being the keyword, here.

One day I had "out for delivery" a NIST traceable testing/calibration weight. These are normally prohibitively expensive. Got this one for cheap (for what it is) off eBay. Paperwork and all.

What that meant was if something had gone awry and it was lost I'd have been out of luck. So of course that would be the One Package they managed to bungle.

When the tracking claimed "Unable to deliver" I called the Annex and told them to hold it for pickup. For all the good that did. Good thing I got there early the next morning, because, instead of being held, or put back on the route truck, it was sorted to go back to the regional sorting center!

(Which should have bounced it back to the local Annex, then to the route truck, then me, but...)

I'm not saying this is what happened. But a lot of Ebay sellers really need to put a new ink cartridge in their printers, Amazon is bad about putting labels over the edges of boxes, or over the opening and not securing the box (so you get a bent barcode or some other distortion). But Ebay sellers frequently have labels that are so faint the scanners won't read the barcode, it's rather annoying, because usually the numerals under it are even fainter and I have to manually type it in.

I had a package that started out in Grand Rapids, Mi. coming to Walled Lake, Mi.; about 3 hours apart. The first thing USPS did was send it to Pa. There was a delay in getting the package.
