. . . <snip> . . .

My card offers "virtual cards.".
Would you mind sharing what card it is?
Mine is Capital One, but there are many other cards that offer similar features. Some of the Citi cards, I believe some American Express cards, and a bunch of others.

Just use your favorite search engine to look for "virtual credit card," and you'll get a bunch of responses. Here's one: https://www.creditcards.com/cr...-account-numbers.php

For all you guys who prefer checks to using a credit card on auto pay, do yourself a favor. Go to your bank and ask what protection you have if your check gets lost or stolen in mail and you get defrauded from your checking account. Ask about the process, how long, if ever, to get your money back. Then ask about the protection built into CC use. Basically, you call report the fraud and they stop the transaction and refund your money. Pretty much instantaneously.

As for the other stuff, hard to stop, hacking, etc. You are safer using your CC. Period.

Last point. Every major purchase you make is preferable on a CC. If the vendor doesn’t follow through on the deal as they should, product faulty, not as advertised, etc, you call the CC and start a dispute. You fill out their form and they take it from there. Instant buyer protection if someone tries to &$#@ with you.

Seriously. Do the research. There is some very incorrect and dated statements being made on this thread.

Pays with 17th century technology (snail mail), gets mad at wrong people when payment is lost. Ok. Sounds legit.

Use your fucking credit card. With auto pay. What's to be worried about!?Your credit card info gets stolen? Literally the easiest problem in the world to solve. (Hello, card services, close my account for fraud and send me a new card. Thanks.)

The crooks can do a lot more damage with your account numbers off your check that you mail every month than they can with credit card numbers.

I make 80,000 dollars a year in credit card charges. That's a lot of transactions. Thousands of transactions. And yes, my credit card gets hacked/stolen on average about once every ten months or so. I literally give two shits. The credit card company fixes everything in a two minute phone call. No stress. No problems. I'm never out a single penny. Ordering pizza is more stressful an occurrence than your credit card info getting stolen.

I agree with the credit card, much more protected these days, if you are hacked, the bank will stop payment and credit you. I had a mortgage check lost in the mail once. Talk about a huge hit on me possibly. Not to mention possible late charges. Luckily I always check the balance, and didn’t see it go down. I called and nope, never got there. I put a stop payment on it, stopped out in person, paid again at the mortgage lender, and had them note the account if the check shows up, don’t try to cash it since I alerted my credit union to stop it. It finally showed up over a month and a half later, all crumpled up looking, which I know about, since the mortgage lender actually read my alert, didn’t try to cash it, and sent it back to me. Must have gotten stuck in a sorting machine at the post office, and just finally was found. I ended up making that an in person transaction from then on until I switched mortgage holders to my credit union. Now I just transfer money.

It appears you are offended because you feel the NRA is questioning your character of paying for your commitments.

They sent you a mass produced mailer they probably sent to tens of thousands of other people. They are designed to elicit a response and get the money sent. The NRA is a large organization and there is going to be some percentage of error in the operations.

As others have said, you chose to use the most out dated way of payment. I do not use auto pay but I do use the electronic online bill pay though my bank. I can set up a bill pay with the NRA and choose how much I want to send each time and when to send the payment.

If I never see a paper check again it will be too soon.

Do debit cards offer the same protection as credit cards?

As irritated as this made you, please don't drop the NRA. They are one of the few organizations representing us and our firearms. They are constantly a target of attack of the scoundrels on the left (progressives, socialists, communists, marxists, media-ists) which means they are effective. Perfect, no. But name me one, with their clout, that is. The NRA is politically connected and our membership numbers and donations make them effective - driving the left even crazier. You can note the left has all kinds of organizations they can donate to that attack our guns and other fundamental rights. That any gun owner/enthusiast in the US is not a member of the NRA baffles me.

Call them back, talk to a supervisor and then, as others have stated, use your credit card to pay it - monthly or in full.

As I stated earlier in my post, this is what irritated me... "Warning in CAP LETTERS, "THIS ACCOUNT IS PAST DUE: IF PAYMENT IS NOT SUBMITTED, ACCOUNT WILL CONVERT TO ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP STATUS".. Maybe it was a system generated letter to force members to send payment. Maybe not. If it was a system generated message, then it will not work with some members, like myself.

To this date, the check in question is still missing. It was for $25. I had to do a STOP Payment on a $25 check, and WFB fee is $31.

My last statement showed balance of $150. It did not have the SAME nasty message. I have decided to fulfill my obligation and sent them a check for $125. (YES. I did sent a check and they received and cashed it). I was hoping the $25 check will show up somehow. But it never did. I will wait for the next bill for $25 and mail them my FINAL donation.

I still believe in what they stand for. That is NOT the issue here. The issue is the NASTY MESSAGE they sent me, and the way the customer service rep handled my call.

So, it's a CSR, one CSR, who who pissed you off. How is it that you let this become "NRA just lost my support", when you "still believe what they stand for"?? Confused

Q, I still believe in what they stand for. That is why I have decided to fulfill the financial obligation that I signed up for (Lifetime Membership). The CSR did piss me off, that is true. But it was the threatening message of switching my membership back to Annual Membership if they don’t recieve my payment that really got under my skin. What will that actually accomplish, other than make me pay Annually once again? Where in fact I’m only few payments away from paying my Lifetime Membership in full? I still believe in what they stand for. I fulfilled my financial obligation. But that will be it for now. No future solicitation letters will be entertained. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks, ador.

When I donate, it will be always be on the time of my choosing. All the phone calls or mails asking for money are automatically ignored or trashed.

In a nutshell. Precisely.

I just checked the site and can only find gift life membership for $500. No codes to share to help you sign up as they have done before.

This ^^^^^

I've been a member for... geez... so long I do not recall. Forty years? How can you tell? I send 'em a check when it's time to renew. The relentless badgering snail mail gets the address info ripped off for the shredder and the rest goes into the paper recycling bag--ignored.

I don't think we get pestered with phone calls. I think my wife finally told them if they didn't stop it I was dropping my membership. Their choice.
