Could be worse. They could have taken my guns. Could have hurt my dog (she was chillin' when I got home! Helluva watch dog!).

There have been a lot of burglaries in my neighborhood of late (even made the news about two weeks ago). Been nearly smash and grab operations (carry-able stuff....laptops, cameras, cellphones, iPods), so I've taken to hiding my laptop when I go to work. Sure enough, they nabbed my wife's, but not mine.

This to top off a week where I was the victim of a hit and run (rear-ended while at a light....same cop responded to both! Think this hellhole of a city needs more cops?!).

Oh well. I'm just glad my dog is okay and my house isn't totally trashed. If the dog was hurt, I'd have to grab my zombie gear and go do some vigilante stuff...not hard in this city.

Well, I'm glad to hear that everyone is OK. I'd be inconsolable if my dog had been hurt or killed. Stuff I can replace. Him not so much.

Glad your dog is OK and you still have your guns. Baltimore is, regretably, a shithole. I don't suppose there is a chance you could move?

Hogarth, that sucks. Glad your dog is OK.

That sucks, but I'm glad it didn't turn out worse for you. I believe you're entitled to a week on the beach somewhere warm, or maybe a quick trip up into the mountains. Gotta remind yourself that there's still parts of this world that are worthwhile. Then go practice at the range Wink

Don't be so cold hearted. If you see it, you should walk over and console him. Things like "man, that looks like it hurt!" Or, "that'll leave a mark!" As the half hour winds down, you might help him by moving his broken arm or leg a few times. If its winter, you might even offer him some first aid. Like maybe some ice water to ease his pain and suffering. If he has an open or oozing wound, consider some alcohol to disinfect it. Hand sanitizer sprayed every few minutes would work wonders. You can tell when he needs more because his screaming has stopped or become less loud.

That sucks. I know what your going through as I had this happen to me back in May. Unfortunately they did get some of my guns. But luckily no one including my wife's dog was hurt.

Thanks for all the kind words. Crime scene people FINALLY got here at 7 AM today (14 hours after the responding officers put in the request!). Apparently, Baltimore has 8 CSI people who work in two shifts of four each. The morning shift arrived to find 21 crime scenes from last night they still had to process! A far cry from the television world!

We just had all new windows put in a month ago, and they forced the window, despite the locks, next to the kitchen door. Then, either reached in and unlocked the door, or just hopped through the window itself. Funny thing is that the old window in that spot had a broken lock for 2 years, yet so soon after getting a new window there, it got broken into! At some point they opened the door, perhaps to leave, because my neighbor found my dog hanging out on the porch. So the window lock is busted, but there's no broken glass or anything.

Never heard of the band "Clutch", sorry.

Well, I'm not thrilled by any of this, but the responding officers, the detectives who came later, and the CSI woman were all very nice, helpful, etc. They did nail some good, usable prints, but they may have been mine. Luckily, I had the SN for the laptop and old cellphone they took, so if they pawn them, there's a chance they'll get nailed. We'll see. Again, I look at it as how much worse it could have been.

The gangs here are doing smash and grabs to fund themselves.

Using fake ID's at the pawn shops when they fence their goods.

Sorry to hear the bad news. No one likes a thief.

So now for the $64,000 question, where did you hide the laptop? Big Grin

Haha. Well, I'm not telling. But I hid various things in various simple places. Digital camera under a baseball cap on a shelf, for instance. Heck, they missed a slightly older laptop, my wife's work one, sitting on the bookshelves right next to the iMac they took. Go figure.

Detectives called me today. They have a suspect, some 16 year old who was dumb enough to leave prints in my house. I've never heard of him, and there are never teenagers in my house, and the fact that they already have his prints on file pretty much says it all. Considering he left his prints at the scene, I'm guessing he won't be too hard to find. We'll see.

Arrest made today. All the property of any value returned today (laptop, iPod, power cords). My wife is pissed that disc 1 of Season One of "Psyche", which was in the computer when it was taken, was no longer in there.

All in all, we got LUCKY! Special thanks to the detectives of the Northern District of Baltimore....we were very impressed with their professionalism and their speedy work.
