So far in 2020.
2 Kids health issues still go undiagnosed (3 years running) after 2 more specialists visits this year.
One gets scheduled for an EEG and the other scheduled to be scoped top and bottom.
Transfer case motor goes out on my truck, finally get time and decent weather crawl under and start working. Keep smelling gas find the lines leaking. So it gets all new lines and fuel pump.
Covid hits full swing. All the boys EEG and scopes are cancelled until who knows when (maybe in the next couple weeks they open back up).
Kids school and day care closed indefinitely. As well as the schools two biggest fund raisers cancelled. It’s a small private school and very nervous the school may not survive.
Boy’s were set to be Baptized that is on hold until who knows when.
Spring Break location shut down at least we got money back. Disney shut till 2021 so summer is messed up too.
I jacked up my costochondrial joint (nothing like feeling like you are being stabbed in the chest with every breath, and coughs and sneezes about put you to your knees for 3 weeks).
Wife gets furloughed from both jobs.
Wife’s Suburban we bought in January starts leaking oil, replace oil pan.
I fall through the ceiling trying to get stuff out of the attic.
Wife’s Suburban needed brakes so I did that and battled 4 bolts for about an hour and a half tank of MAP gas.
Later that night it stormed and opened the Suburban Door after the storm to find the driver’s floor board full of water. Took it to the dealer today apparently it is quite common for the GPS antenna to leak. Of course they don’t have the part so it sits down there.
Kids are riding bikes today and the oldest boy crashes. I holler at him to see if he is alright he’s not getting up. Wife goes to check on him and he is still not getting up she picks him up and he starts screaming bloody murder. Wife starts freaking a bit as she is now covered in blood, boy is still screaming and blood is is just pouring out of his mouth and spraying everywhere when he screams. Teeth are there but the top 4 are nowhere near the positions they were prior to the crash. No answer at his dentist no option for an emergency number. Call my Doctor for advise and he gets us setup right away with another pediatric dentist.
They were awesome as could be ready to roll with the masks and all the new protocols with 15 minutes till closing.
Thank fully no extractions necessary at the moment. The front two teeth will likely not last the night and the two to each side should tighten back up as the gums heal. He’s got bloody knees elbows, hands, busted lips, and nose.
Doing pretty good snuggling mom and eating his prescribed popsicles until the teeth fall out of their own.

So, we’ll see what else can go wrong.

You didn't mention your WaterRower leaking, so that's a positive.

Hang in there.

Have not used it in 3 weeks thanks to the costochondrial joint issue. Way too painful.
So I am guessing when I lower it down to get back on it I’ll end up with water on the floor.

I suggest you not get out of bed tomorrow. You were VERY fortunate to find a pediatric dentist for your son. Focus on the positive. I have children and remember how frightening it is when they have medical issues. May tomorrow bring a better day.

I know it sucks and I know nothing we say will help. I also know that you could be in some shithole in Africa worried some warlord will come take your kids for soldiers, cut your hands off and rape your wife. That’s a bad year for a lot of people.

I don’t say that because I am on a high horse, I say it because I bitch and complain about all kinds of things and sometimes I have to stop and think that there are places in this world that are a shit show of biblical proportions and thinking of those poor folks tends to put my crap into perspective.

All I can offer is this too shall pass, and a few prayers and a hopefully a little perspective.....for us both.

Yes, thankfully the two that will go are baby teeth with no damage or fractures to the adult teeth up in the gums.

I know it could be far worse just helps to vent sometimes to get moving along.

Jones may take you up on that when school is technically over and my days off aren’t spent trying to keep the little boys occupied as mama helps the oldest boy with his zoom and school work.
I have to say his teacher is still working pretty hard with these kids.
They have two 30-45 minute zoom classes a day. She breaks them up into groups of 5 to make it more manageable so she is doing 6 a day.

Of course it does and I hope I didn’t come across as “quit your bitchin’”. I just find that it helps me to take a breath and realize that my WORST years of my life don’t compare to some folks .... “Wednesday”

Hang in there, tackle your problems one at a time, and keep telling yourself it’s rarely as bad as our brains make it out to be.

AND YELL AND SCREAM AND CURSE AND THROW SOME SHIT TOO. I find that cathartic as well.

Don't mean to make light of your issues but in the immortal words of Marty Feldman,
"Could be worse. Could be raining."

Seriously, hope you get by all this as soon as possible. Best wishes and a few prayers.

A friend of mine has been renovating his dad's old house to move into but he hadn’t been there in a couple weeks due to weather and other issues. Went a few days ago and just happened to do a walk around of the property. Found three kittens in bad shape from malnutrition and exposure. Guy doesn’t have much money but he took the kittens to the vet, found out they likely wouldn’t have lasted another day. Got them on worm meds, took them home and has been bottle feeding them. The difference in those critters from only four days of care is amazing. Once they’re off the bottle he’ll give them away.

So there’s your positive from me. Surly old combat vet with little money and persistent health issues of his own becomes a mama cat to rescue three helpless little kittens. Good luck going forward bud.

Black,
I feel your struggles.. mine are a bit different, but if you need anything holler at me.

My struggles are feeling trapped (state has closed most everything and I am mandated to work from home by my employer. And I have an open wound where I dug out a cyst that is keeping me off my bicycle.

My good news is the oldest moved back home (he is 19) since his school is now all online due to the college closures.

Again, if you need anything and I can provide let me know.

I'm positive if you come over to my place, I'll have a case of .38 Super that needs to be spent. Be it from a 2011, Sig, or Glock.

Seems like the Lord has blessed you with the talent and ability to overcome whatever the world throws your way:

There is still hope that the specialists can diagnose the problem.
You were able to fix the transfer case and fuel lines yourself, so you didn't have to spend a shitload so you can watch someone else do it.
'Rona is in full swing, but not swinging by your place.
Schools come and go. The education and values they receive from the schools and at home endures.
You can enjoy time with your family and have a better Spring Break without some maniacal trinkets that cost too much.
If your wife is on furlough from two of them, she obviously has the talent and skills that are in demand. Hopefully she will be able to go back soon.
You were able to replace the oil pan and fix the brakes yourself, so you didn't have to spend a colossal shitload so you can watch someone else do it.
You were able to find the leak before it rusted out the floor pan.
Your son will heal in a bit of time and will have an experience that he can learn from that will have him calculate risk and precautionary measures in a more well defined manner.
Your WaterRower should still be under warranty.

Not everything is easy. Reading what some guy you never met typed about your experiences may or may not help much either, but if you swing by North Georgia, maybe we can work on a few boxes of 38s.

My latest project involves squeezing off a bunch of 7.65mm Para, so there is that too...

Thanks for the kind words. I know we’ll get through it. Just frustrating.
Dr. Called today and the boy gets his Covid test Thursday so he can be scoped on Monday.

Still awaiting the EEG for the other boy.
