Two things:

First, I'm watching the Olympics tonight, one of the few chances that I have had to see any of the action, and I catch the finals of the balance beam. Congrats to Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin for the gold and silver, but I'm wondering why they are wearing different outfits.

Did I miss something? Don't our teams have the same uniforms anymore? What's up with this?

Not that important I guess, but it bugs me.

they wear the same when they compete as a team

the different outfits are worn when they are competing individually.

What's with the Chinese scores? Three or four times now the experts have been flabbergasted at the scores the Chinese gymnasts are getting despite errors. It's not just Bela Karolyi, either. ALL the commentators have been at a loss.

I didn't see any earrings in SJ's ears...

I still don't understand why Nastia got a tie score with a Chinese gymnast on the uneven bars, but got a silver medal. Can someone 'splain this?

The tie breaker goes thusly:

In the event of a tie, the highest and lowest scores are dropped and the remaining scores averaged. Nastia and the Chinese gymnast were tied after this first step.

Then, they drop the second lowest score and re-average. Nastia was 1/100 lower than the Chinese after this step, and so they gave her the silver.

I saw this on the news, so I can't back it up with a citation from da web.

I think it's good that she is becoming aware of the need to search for peace... I'm pretty sure that she gets it from her coach who came from China and probably left there trying to escape the vast amounts of human rights problems there. He has probably told her some things about what he suffered while living in China, thus her peace earrings. This is a shot in the dark, but from the things I know about her coach and China it would make sense.

Did you by chance catch the manufacturer of the SUV she was driving??? LAND ROVER!

The parents, according to an interview w/ Meredit Viera remortgaged their home 3-4 times to help foster her dreams of Olympic glory.

Personally I am not offended by the suggestion that peace is a desirable option, particularly compared with war.

peace symbol,swastica, who cares ? when I was 16 ,I could almost roller skate.

If her inspiration gets a 1000 kids out from behinid the tv and bouncing around its worth it.
