Why do so many folks feel the need to "challenge" a "fast" car?

And just for a change of pace, on the way to work today I had two different guys feel the need to impress me. Not the norm in that the ones today, I was clearly driving the POS...

First was a Porsche Boxster, second was some dude in a blue Ferrari.

Side note - Who the hell buys a baby blue pastel Ferrari?

I've been driving Subaru WRX's for about 15 years and I get the same thing from rice-rockets, slammers, and other "show before to" douchebags.

Don't care much if they "win". But the interacting this is WRX drivers are all good to each other, wave when passing, nods, and other signs of camaraderie.
