I thought that was supposed to be the case too and I ended up quitting eBay over a 15 dollar holster.

It never arrived and the seller said, nope, we shipped it and tracking says it was delivered, sorry and eBay said, tough shit.

It arrived about 40 days later. Sure it was a USPS problem all along, but this was a business and they should have stood by it, after-all they used them.

I've had it happen before, get a replacement and a couple weeks later get the original. I always ship it back.

Some of the eBay people source their wares once it HAS sold. Crazy, but it's a living I guess. or at least, a side business.

I had a situation just a week ago. Purchased a backpack. Paid that day. No communication. Wondered. Finally got a message saying life had gotten in the way. I asked him to ship so I could use the item for an upcoming trip. He did, and all is well. But, Amazon has spoiled us and I think made us expect the same from mere mortals.

Now, AFTER I register a complaint/open investigation with eBay that SUDDENLY I get tracking info and it's enroute?

This turd of a seller is getting ZERO feedback from me, I haven't blasted him with a negative feedback yet because I fear he will retaliate and give me one, and I've had ZERO negative feedback since joining eBay in 2000.

I half expect this "new in box" laptop to be anything but that...

Blast away. Sellers cannot give buyers negative feedback any longer. That is one of the things I did not like that eBay changed.

I bought some aircraft stuff from an eBay seller whose business address was in Las Vegas. I paid promptly, then we had two and a half months of emails: me asking for the tracking number, seller replying with new and innovative excuses for missing the previously promised shipping date and vowing to ship "tomorrow."

I did some sleuthing and found that while his business was in Las Vegas, he was a Utah resident. I found the contact information for a Utah state office dealing with consumer protection and forwarded everything to them.

The replied, informing me that behavior like this was NOT approved in Utah, they would follow up for me quickly, and the seller would be subject to a $250.00 fine for each incident. Each email from him, promising to ship, was considered a separate incident, so with the thirteen emails that I had forwarded, the total fine would be $3,250.00.

I forwarded a copy of the correspondence with Utah to the seller. Two days later, FedEx delivered the package. I received subsequent emails from the seller begging me to drop the charges. I set up a "rule" in my email client to send all messages from the seller directly to the trash, so I do not know what the final outcome was on his end.

My laptop finally arrived yesterday.

This is bizarre; I don't think the seller ever had this in his possession? it looks like when I bid and won, he then ordered it and then was shipped to me? It's a brand new HP laptop as was expected.

WTF kind of weird crap is that?

I'm glad yours arrived. Mine was "shipped" (per ebay) and scheduled to arrive on the 19th. Nothing since then, and the seller is no longer registered or active on ebay. Yup, thinking I just got roped.

You paid with PayPal? Have you entered a dispute? I think that eBay / PayPal will make you whole.

It's called drop shipping and it's very common in mail order eCommerce.

Hope you're right. I did pay with PayPal, haven't tried them yet. So far eBay says wait another week.

I know what drop shipping is, but never heard of a person on eBay doing that as a seller.
