To me this is an open ended question for you to state your preference. It isn't meant to be rude. If I was the server, I'd be tempted to respond to "or what?" with "Perhaps the contents of my bladder, or a nice big lugie, or I'll even supply some 'special sauce' if you've got a minute."

"Begs the question" when used to mean "suggests the question." That isn't what it means. At all. Not even close. And why do people think it does? Does "beg" mean the same thing as "suggests?"

Using "begs the question" in that way just shows you are trying to hi-falute without having any idea what it actually means.

This one has been on the top of my list for ten years now since I first heard it pour out of the mouth of a ditzy blonde. It and its abbreviated version "Right?"(with the requisite upward inflection) are fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

God damn fucking hell I hate that phrase. Life hack, how stupid. It just feels like a spider eating my brain. I want to punch a nun when I hear it. I hate it sooooo much.

Sorry I have heard some pretty stupid questions.

My answer is always "That may be true, but there is such a thing as stupid people who also ask questions."

I hate it almost as much as you. Probably not quite nun punching bad, but definitely at minimum makes me want to punch a seminary student.

As I read through the thread, I was thinking these people have nothing better to do than whine about phrases? Then I came to your post and heard the voice in my mind and immediately I remembered the guy / ex-coworker who would say, "EXAAACTLY!" in the same voice.

Man, that grated on me as he said it every fifth sentence or so.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
