Holy Crap. Can’t find 18” bike tires or tubes for the life of me.
Found a couple here and there online for some crazy prices and some pink ones.

Boy may have to just suck it up and have a pink rear tire if he wants to ride.

I went into Academy a few weeks ago for a cheap, $7 item. They have bike racks two stories. Not a single got damn bike for sale in the place and their racks hold a lot of bicycles. People are going nuts.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Ever since this whole Covid thing, people been buying exercise equipment like crazy. I was shopping for a Trek road bike in the $3500 range thinking that’s not that high demand and sales told me it’s a 1.5 month wait for orders.

Idiots trying to charge $2/pound on free weights.

Saw someone try to charge $400 for a Walmart Schwinn.

The bike industry sales have been one bright spot in the economy the past few months. Sales took off with everyone at home quarantining. It's one of the few things people figured they could do while social distancing. Combine that with most of the bikes and parts being made in China and the supply chains have been interrupted. The bike store shelves are empty on bikes and parts. Service repairs are so backed up that some shops are quoting 3 weeks just to fix a flat tire (if they have the parts).

I have a few SIGs.

I went to a local bike shop the other week, sprucing up a bike, new seat, tire, & a bit more.

I was taken aback some by the lack of inventory. The owner said supply has dried up, as demand has gone up, worldwide.

He had my tire(26”) and seat, was busy with repairs too.

They are all out of stock.

I would a tube and tire locally fortunately.
I also have one of each coming from Amazon but they won’t be here until mid August.

I feel your pain. I just picked up two 26" tires for my wife's bike, the last two (of any design/make) at the local REI. Shelves are bare of actual cycles, parts are getting thin, and manufacturers are telling retailers "January, maybe?"

Price is no object, either. I was looking at a Masi before the insanity began, and that model-- a fairly "niche" one-- is unobtanium now, too.

Fortunately, pretty much every "sanctioned" event I'd ride with it is cancelled anyway.

A huge amount of freight coming out of China has been curtailed with Covid. Cost of shipping has skyrocketed; it's been running as much as 15 times higher; less shipping, greater demand, higher price; a lot of things aren't getting shipped, due to the cost.
