Some are even worse than others. Happened on an episode of Misfit Garage on Discovery, and wow. What awful fake ass acting. Like bad porn acting.

Oh no... you bought a crappy car, how will we ever get this done?

Just horrible horrible acting. Couldnt take more than about 10 minutes even though I was actually intrerested in the restoration they were doing

Overall lower production values now I think. We watch the new Name That Tune but compared to older versions this one looks like it was done by a high school video class.

It seems like they are advertising shows as real reality but then you watch them and it is like they are not hiding that the show is in fact scripted. You can tell through the acting and situation folks are placed in.
I just re watched the first Myth Busters and you can tell the show has a slight script but not like the newer shows coming out.
Didn't Pawn Stars producers put advertisements out to folks to come into the store and the would coach them through what to ask for. House hunters was the same way where the folks already bought the house and then the producers would go out and find nice houses that were not even on the market and have the act like they are looking at the house. So much for reality tv.
I miss the day of true reality like COPS and Live PD. The only true reality shows in my opinion.

When I was in Alaska, I sat next to the CEO of Carlisle Trucking (i.e. the trucking company featured in Ice Road Truckers) for a multi-day conference. It was really interesting to hear him talk about the crap the producers tried to pull (e.g. can you back up and run that over? No!) and the fake load count contest.

When Ice Road Truckers had their spin-offs for India and South America they bought their own trucks so they could have fake drama (e.g. hit stuff with them) and sometimes bought their own load so they could spill a load.

My new favorite is Airplane Repo, "stealing planes" every plane they recover requires stealth, stealing, night time recovery, problematic planes, One of the guys is from CFL, I've seen VTails airport in several episodes since one of the repo men Mike Kennedy lives nearby in Florida...

Apparently a lot of repo planes frequent that airport LOL

Still, some mindless entertainment is good..

Not Mike Kennedy, but another repo pilot I know, tells me that with the very rare exception, all he had to do was politely ask for the airplane. Keys, logbooks, everything, was turned over to him with no problem.

One of the exceptions, he took a Citation Jet from its hangar and hid it in a different hangar on Our Little Airport.

a friend was on one of the firearms shows, I cannot remember which one (long since cancelled)

he had some oddball NFA piece that needed some work, and the group running the show were tickled he agreed to let them work on it,

he told me they did good work (whoever did the actual work) but he hated the process,

when he was filmed, he was given a script and told not to deviate,

he did, cause he is a talker ,and the re shot the scene and told him not to deviate,

did not set well with him at all,
he said nothing was real about the process at all

I was in the repossession business and worked with guys who specialized in aircraft. My experience was the same. Also mostly true with boats, motorhomes, and vehicles that were not primary means of transport.

Yeah. And many of the “friends” that they would call in to help appraise were found by the show’s producers too. Some didn’t even live in Vegas. Pawn Stars was pretty heavily scripted. The local government decide that showing people in a pawn shop violates their rights. So anyone you see in the store is an extra.

A couple others come to mind here - Storage Wars and the two knuckleheads who search for antiques mostly in the mid-west (just go to their website and you'll see what I mean).

That’s not at all surprising. After they got big I’ll bet they had tire-kickers showing up constantly to get them to do custom work. The 2k separates the serious people. Though hopefully if you had enough work done then the 2k you paid for the estimate got considered.

And yeah the other two shows you mentioned were also heavily scripted. Many reality shows are, at least somewhat.

The PRECISE reason why I got sick and tired of the made-up drama on Deadliest Catch. Yeah...they could all whip my ass with their pinky, but good god...the scripted drama queens just drove me away.

A former coworker of mine has an acting credit as "the wife" in one of those "look at three houses" format home shows. She remained under NDA after the show and could not reveal the show name nor the "character name" under which she has the acting credit.

We were at a resort where they were filming a Bachelor UK show, and it was a royal pain with the film crew shutting down restaurants, gyms, pools, even sidewalks. We got a kick out of the multiple takes of the women walking down the beach, being followed by creepy camera guys with ass level shots, drones, etc. The other shot they did about half a dozen times was the Bachelor picking up one of the women in the surf and spinning around. We wondered if either of them got motion sickness. We also toyed with posting spoilers to social media, since WE didn’t have NDAs.

Watched one of the earliest reality shows for a couple of seasons. Haven’t watched one in many, many years. I would not watch one of the current versions if paid by the minute. Life is too short for that crap to take up any time!
