I earned my bombasticity |
Eeeeew!
I wasn't sure until last night. He doesn't gorge himself at the food dish and didn't appear to be losing that much weight. Now I know why. He's been "augmenting" his diet with mice, birds and whatever else he comes across. (Found another bunny carcass a week or so ago.) So I'll have to take him into the vet in the next few weeks. he's overdue for vaccinations anyhow so I may as well get the plumbing flushed at the same time. I was thinking in the neighborhood or $300... but I'm wrong there... thank god! Full vaccination suite will run around $122. I'm not sure how much the "deworming" is going to be. I really need to get it done before winter kicks in. "The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. Feed it a clove of minced garlic and make sure it is either outside or real close to the box.

If he's a good mouser who enjoys the hunt, then he's earned his keep and deserves some medical work.
Get him checked out!! ******* "If the population of Eastern Europe were as well armed as the average American, the Nazis would have lost much of their military capacity attempting to implement the Holocaust." -- Clayton Cramer, "Firing Back." |

Oh he enjoys the hunt alright. Maybe a little too much. He's definitely due a visit to keep him healthy. Always a PITA to get him down there but he always feels great when he comes back. (Well... except for the neuter visit.) It's round worms and I'd like to find something I can mix into his soft food.
I was looking for that stuff but couldn't find it around. I may need to go further afield. "The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. Good on your little hunter. My old kitty was a fierce killer, but she is a little older now and has lost a step or two.

Find a feed store you know the place that has hay and stuff for horses etc. They carry the worm pills. That is where I got mine and dosed the cats myself. A lot cheaper than a visit to the Vet. Putting it in their food did not work for me had to stuff them down their little throats and hold their mouths shut til they swallowed. (keep fingers clear when you do this)

+1, force fed garlic pills are the fastest, easiest way to go. Watch your fingers. |

if you go the co-op route...remember they are dosed on weight for an animal that weighs a lot more than kitty
so kitties dose may wind up being a little drop so BIL using horse dewormer in his 60lb dog and it's a tiny dose just make sure you calculate kitties dose correctly Shoot low boys! They're riding shetland ponies! |

I think it matters what kind of worms. The pet places have OTC wormers, but only that work on certain types of worms. Sorry it's been a few years since I had to deal with this, but I remember googling, and then comparing GF's cat's worms to the pics on line before heading out to get worm stuff from Petco.
When in doubt, head to the vet. Not much margin for error there. _______________________________________________________________________________ “Stand your ground. Do not fire unless fired upon. But if they mean to have war, let it begin here!” |

Cripes Guys the bottle I got for my Kitties was made for kitties not Horses!! sheeze. There are cats on farms and ranches so they do have the pills and the type of worm is important. These pills are for tape worms. See your Vet for the right pills for your pet if in doubt.

I'd never say don't take baby to the vet, but he said it might be a little while before the visit, so it doesn't hurt if the right OTC wormer can be found.
Then the little P-bastard can be checked, but might not need any more deworming. Just sayin'. |

sometimes your pet will bloat up when worms are on board and weight loss is not always present....

I'm telling you dude, mince a clove of garlic and mix ibto wet food. If cat won't eat (force it to skip a day of eating) slice a clove into 3 or 4 pieces and give like you would a pill.

The horse pill thing reminds me of a story I've heard more than once about my dad...
Before I was born (or when I was a mere squirt of 1 year or less) the family had several "farm" cats. One got worms and my dada gave it a worm pill. I don't remember if it wsa a dog dose or a horse dose or what. I just remember the part where he forces the cat to slallow it... then tosses the cat into the bathroom and shits the door. Several hours later... after much loud and inappropriate protest from the kitty, dad opens the door. The cat comes out... puffed up and with eyes like Charlie Manson. But that cat never got worms again. Definitely not tape worms. They're round worms about 1/2" long. I'll call the vets office on Monday. Like I said, he's overdue to vacccinations anyhow, so getting him dosed for worms isn't going to be much extra money. He's earned it. Part dog, great mouser and very low maintenance. Funny cat worm story..I'm not really a cat person to begin with..However, I do like mousers, barn cats, outside cats,,but don't like them in the house. The thought of a cat jumping on the kitchen counter, hopping onto the table,,right after leaving the litterbox does not endear them to me. If they didn't do that,, it wouldn't be quite as big a deal..Anyways,,
One night a friend was over. Male RN,,when our cat came by with a worm hanging out of his butt..Long one,,had to pull it out..We laughed and I made him promise not to tell anyone about it..Agreed. Next day at work,,I go cruising thru ICU to get to a different area..There,,standing at the nurse's station is my friend telling all the world about my cat and his butt worm..Just so happenned I caught him red handed.. Couldn't have planned it..He was busted..I was a little pissed, but what could I do?.He bought the beers for awhile.. As luck will have it,,we had a falling out over something else equally trivial.. |
