What's up with youtube?

I have tried a couple times over the last few days to view some youtube stuff. It demands that I either sign in, or register.

When did this start?

And what's next? Monthly fees, etc, or have they already started that?

Maybe my 80 year old memory is failing more, but I have no recollection of ever having to sign up.

Will give it a shot a little later today. Have to go get my truck worked on.

The only time Youtube asks me to log in to watch a video is when they need to verify my age so they know I'm old enough to watch the video I clicked on. So what video are you trying to watch? o_O

Hell, it could be just about anything. I've had some stuff that's age-gated and when I watch it, I had to wonder why because it was something that aired on cable news.

I never log in. If Youtube asks, I just go to liveleak.com to watch it.

YouTube is trying a number of subscription revenue-generating schemes. YouTube Music and youTube Premium are two biggies. Meanwhile, they've demonetized the lion's share of creators.

I sign In using my Google account on one laptop and on my smart TV, i’ve Logged on and off my account. I’m currently watching not signed in.

The only requirement for signing in is if you want to watch age restricted videos.

I spent about an hour on it last night without any issues. No one asked me to sign in. I tell people not to go on the site unless they have some time to kill. One thing quickly leads to another.

Don't know what happened, but I tried again last evening and got into the site without trouble.
