Loud video on the gas pumps Login/Join

For many years I’ve always filled at a particular Shell station in the same strip mall as my barbershop. A couple of months ago new pumps were installed. And a video screen blasts loudly for the entire duration of each fill. Really annoying!

I now go to a Chevron station instead. Screw ‘em!

Kroger, they used to allow people selling car care products at the pumps, they were obnoxious and I was too in turn.

Yes - completely annoying!!

I had the pleasure on a recent trip. And since I generally exclusively use Chevron......

Doubly annoying - I have a car w/ a large tank that takes time to fill. The video is on a loop. Once is more than enough.....

This has become my new pet peeve!

As if we don't get enough audio/visual intrusion into our daily lives!

To make it worse, I'm now spending my money - buying gas - and I'm being hit with this crap?

I don't know about Chevron, but the Sunoco station I went to had a mute button.

There was another place I filled up at where no obvious mute button, but I kept pressing all the buttons around the screen until I didn't have to learn, and then relearn, "the word of the day". Roll Eyes

Wait until the ads target you personally.
Something like what was shown in the film Minority Report.

BP stations around here play loud, obnoxious commercials on a screens at the pumps for shit I don't want.

sigmonkey's suggestion might be less conspicuous, but my mute button of choice might be:
(applied to the screen, not to your head)

Yeah, I'm not a fan. My introduction to these was a couple years ago. I didn't know they had installed them and that they were actual TV screens with speakers and all that, I thought it was just an LCD screen with an advertisement on it like the newer billboards. Then whatever loud commercial it was sporadically playing startled the bejeebus out of me while I was fiddling with the gas pump. I disliked it so much, I haven't gone back to that gas station.

WaWa does it, generally Music, sometimes the staff cranks it up and yeah it's irritating, Speedway does it with video and it's loud.

One day I'll hit the call button and do an old man routine of "turn that shit down, you're killing my ears!"

@sigmonkey -

Dual purpose mute button - if you can't find the right spot to jab the pump, you can always stick it in yer ear... Eek

If you press the buttons to the left and right of the screen you'll find volume up, volume down and mute buttons. It might take a little playing around but I have faith you'll figure it out pretty quick.

They are not video yet, but give them time. The ads above the urinals in the mens room. All the casinos have them.

I try to only fuel at Costco, Sams or Smiths. They don’t do that crap. If I’m traveling and pulled up to a pump playing that shit, I’d leave.

The pumps around here have two rows of four buttons each, vertically, one row on each side of the LCD. The mute button is the second one from the top in the right-hand column.

Some of the stations have tape-labeled it as such. I think the locals have no control over it, got tired of hearing about it, and so made it easier to find the mute.

I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.

Same button here, but I think of it as 3rd up from the bottom. Smile I just started punching buttons while the tank was filling until I found the one that silences it.

Look just get with the times. Video your best dance moves and post it to TikTok. You could be the next social influencer, particularly if you cannot dance to the beat and look goofy.
This would be a great video:

I try to avoid Shell stations whenever possible JUST because of this.
I can’t be the only one.
