I've searched far and wide trying to find a definitive answer to this question:

Can a .40S&W P229R (s/n AM114XXX) be converted to a 9x19 P228 by replacing the slide assembly and locking block?

I've seen where the non-railed frames have but can't find anything about the railed frames.

Thanks in advance.

Yes!

I have my 229R/40S&W converted to 9mm with the 228 slide and locking block.

However, 9mm P228 magazines will be a bit loose. You should use P229-1 9mm magazines which are slightly wider.

Thanks so much! Glad I pulled the trigger on a box of parts that I can use!

Is this applicable to all P229R models, or only certain years of manufacture? I have a 2010 build P229R I'd like to convert to 9mm.

It should work for your gun as well. The easiest way to convrt to 9mm is with a 9mm conversion barrel as sold by Bar-Sto and EFK Fire Dragon. There are many threads on this.

I bought this gun sight unseen, and I'm just surprised how much more massive (weight and width) the .40 slide is over the last P228 I had years ago.
