Anyone know of a good ruger gunsmith, specifically for the 10/22. I replaced a magazine release and now it does not function reliably. Also it is not extracting (extractor??) the rounds.

I'm not a ruger smith, but I've built two Ruger 10/22s into decent target rifles and I'm willing to try to help.

Can you give a more detailed explanation of what you did?

How about pics?

Sig2340....thanks for the response and the offer. I don't know what the hell is wrong with it. The mag release works when the mag is not inserted. It just hangs
up or catches when the magazine is in. Also the thing is failing to extract. So I am really frustrated with the whole thing. Just want someone who is a "pro" to fix it for a reasonable price.

Anyone Beulher? Big Grin

I've found a lot of 10/22 mags that require some fiddling to remove with the stock mag release. Install an extended mag release and you might find the mag drops easily.

Extractors are easily replaced; Volquartsen makes a good one.

Any half-decent gunsmith should be able to install the parts if you don't feel comfortable doing the job yourself.

actually..I installed the the extended mag release myself. I am 99 percent sure that I installed it correctly and when you push the release it actuates the release. It just hangs up with factory mags (all i own).

I will look for someone local to fix it..thanks!

If you can't find anyone, I'd be glad to help out. Of course, it would require shipping the rifle to Utah...

Put the old mag release back in and see if it still works. I understand some aftermarket mag releases need some fine tuning with a file. There is alot of good info @ rimfire.com, they also will be glad to help out.

Even with an extended release in one of my rebuilt 10/22's, I find getting stock 10/22 mags out of the well to be a four handed exercise (one to hold the gun, one to work the release, one to pull the mag out of the well, and one to flip off the people objecting to my cursing).

If you can, take a few digital pictures of the trigger pack (installaed and out of the gun) that show the mag a release and send post them or send them to me. With a good picture it should be fairly easy to determine if the release is not installed correctly.

What brand of release do you have? I've noticed varying levels of quality and have had good luck with Volquartsen parts.

Update....I decided to give it another try. the last time i worked on it I was at the range and it was jamming. I think the jams were affecting the magazine release! It is working with empty mags. I pulled the trigger pack and sprayed it off, as well as the receiver. I want to lube it so...

What areas am I supposed to lube? Do i lube the rod above the bolt? I have break free, m pro 7, and militec. Wich one should i use?

I appreciate all the responses! Chris my mag release is a Volquartzen.

I accurized a 10/22 and may be able to help. Pics of your assy will help determine the correction. Your ejector is the mag. Your mag may not be fully seated in the correct position. It is sometimes necessary to file material from the mag well to clearance the mag for easy full insertion and removal. My mag fits tight and can be aggravating to remove even with the extended lever. The other solution was already mentioned. It could be the parts that are dimensioned incorrectly.
