I have just purchased my first Stainless Elite (226) and need to know if there is any difference in the way the firearm needs to be maintained as compared to the Nitron finish.

Welcome to the Forum.

I have five all stainless Sigs and they are a dream to take care of. No different cleaning regimen from aluminum alloy or polymer.

+1 My GSR COmpact Stainless is a breeze to clean. The only time I need to clean the SS is when I clean the gun. After cleaning I spray the entire gun(I take the grips off) with Bore Kleen, wipe the whole gun down with a rag with a little gun oil on it and then wipe it with a clean cloth.

Only thing I would add is that stainless steel can still rust (just won't rust as badly as a carbon steel), so make sure you wipe it down with a light coat oil especailly if you live in a high humifity area.

I used to clean my stainless S&W 645 in the dishwasher, followed by some "quality" drying time in a warm oven(minus the grips,of course).

Finish with a healthy soaking w/CLP and it was good to go.

P.S. I hated that pistol (although it had nothing to do with the cleaning regimen). My out-of-the-box $30 manual staple gun has a shorter, lighter, crisper trigger pull than the 645 ever did. Frown

I am a big fan of stainless steel guns...always have been.

I clean them just like any other gun except I do NOT put mine in the dishwasher or oven. Big Grin

one thing i wish i was aware of before i did it. p220st . i bought blackhawk serpa holster carbon fiber kydex. great retention and fit, but very quickly scratches everywhere. trigger guard, both sides of slide, both sides of frame. i dont know if fobus, bladetech, etc. has the same problem, but if i could take the scratches away i would go with leather.

"keep shooting!"

Thanks all.

My wife would lose it if I went the dishwasher route. Big Grin

bps7us2....thanks so much for the holster info. Does anyone else have an input. I have been looking at BladeTech but now I am concerned.

I currently own High Noon Leather and they are wonderful....downside.....6 month wait and I am hoping to do some IDPA (1st time) and want to get started quickly.
