Hey all, first post here. I'm looking to refinish my P6 with duracote. I've never refinished a handgun before so I'll be picking up a kit from lauerweaponry.com. Is there anything else I should look to pick up for this project? I've also never taken my P6 down further than a field strip. Are there any guides I should look at for stripping the frame and slide down or maybe a book I should pick up?
Thanks |

Get the Sig Armorers DVD from Top Gun Supply or Brownells. A Must.
As for Duracoat, I have done a couple of handguns now (including a P6) and highly recommend not using the cheap airbrush from Lauer. They have upgrade airbrushes available, but you can find the same one (Pasche I think) on Ebay all day long. It's the red one. Just follow the directions and don't handle too soon. If it says it takes 3 weeks to completely harden, they mean it. P229R .40/P6/Buckmark/870/Mossy 500/A Bolt .300WSM/10/22/NE Pardner |

You can also order a small gravity feed paint gun from Northern Tool and Equipment that has the fine adjustments that can also be used quite efficiently, especially if you decide to do a larger project like and AK or AR down the road- I think they are about $35.00- of course Sears, Lowes and Home Depot have similar ones. Make sure that you put a moisture filter on the air compressor and mix the Duracoat according to directions and shake it well prior to and after mixing with the hardner.
+1 on the armorer's DVD stay away from the AGI video it is not very well made and is boring. A few sigs, a couple revolvers, and a few others |

Thanks for the info guys. I actually found a private gunsmith thats blueing the slide and a couple other parts for $20 so maybe this project will wait another couple years.

Yes pay attention to details when doing this. Duracoat needs to dry big time before you do anything to it. Make sure you prep everything extremely well.
If you found someone to do real hot blue for only $20 for the slide and some other parts, let me know. I ll sell my equipment and just send stuff to him. Hot blue is totally different then cold blue , which you can do yourself in a couple of minutes for about $10. This isnt duracoat, but Cerakote, which is a ceramic coating. But maybe gives you an idea of color scheme or what you can do to "customize" the gun to your liking. The controls are black chrome btw. And +1 on the dvd. That will help you out big time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barrel Feedramp Fixes $ Polishing, Stainless guide rods, P6 Specialties, Short, Medium and Fat Triggers, Custom CNC Machining, Custom Refinishing Chrome Plating and more ~~~Now offering ELECTROLESS NICKEL BORON NITRIDE PLATINGS Cerakote, Hard Chrome, Black $ Nickel Chrome and other finishes and Platings 586.232.3422 9am-6pm Eastern~~~ |

Yes, it's hot blue. He's an older gentleman that does gunsmithing for a hobby, not for money. He said I gave him a good excuse to pull out his blueing equipment because he was about a month behind and had a couple different guns to do.
