One of my 226 mags is all beat to hell up at the top around the lips/follower. Maybe from being dropped or ? I noticed that the follower does not come up as high as a good mag, so the slide does not lock back only when using this mag. What does the follower "trigger" to lock the slide back? Can a worn follower "rock" inside the mag and allow this also?

When the magazine is empty, the follower makes contact with a tab on the slide catch lever and lifts it up to catch the slide while in full recoil.

Is that the notch in the front left corner of the follower?
