So I know what a torque wrench is and how to use it, but I'm having trouble picturing exactly how one would use it in conjunction with an AR-15 armorer's wrench like the following:

Anyone give me a hand?

That's a 1/2" square near the right end of the wrench...

Hard to explain. I know where the wrench fits, but torque is a concept my brain has trouble 100% processing. I'm wondering if the torque measurement would change depending on whether the hole was near the barrel nut end of the wrench or the back end of the wrench.

The 1/2" receptacle (for the torque wrench) doesn't move from one end of the wrench to the other, it remains adjacent to the barrel nut wrench.

If I understand your question, then yes, the indicated reading on your torque wrench changes when an extension is used. To your question, as the hole for the torque wrench is moved farther away from the barrel nut wrench end of your tool, you would set your torque wrench to a lower setting because your "extension" would be longer.

The calculation for the adjustment can be found here:
http://www.belknaptools.com/extcalc.asp

ACTUAL TORQUE = TORQUE WRENCH INDICATED x (WRENCH LENGTH + EXT. LENGTH) / WRENCH LENGTH

All lengths are "on center", including to the center of your torque wrench handle.

Hope this helps.
