I don't want to detail strip my 229 because I don't have the knowledge and am a bit timid to do it. I've got about 1000 rounds thru the gun and wondered if it might be a good idea to spray some clp through the soda straw, that the can comes with, into the workings of the frame and flush out the old grease. Then apply some grease after doing this. The gun is only a few months old.

Detail stripping your gun is not particularly difficult if you get some basic tools and the SIG armorer DVD.

In flushing the gun as you propose, you run the risk of forcing dirt into some tight places where you don't want it. You might be better off just brushing out any loose dirt that you see and adding more lubricant.

Brake cleaner will work well but REMOVE THE GRIPS FIRST. Spray and lube.

I would not detail strip a SIG after shooting only a 1000 rounds (unless it was having problems). A good cleaning is all that is needed. Learn to remove & install the locking insert for that additional bit of cleaning.

Not hard, good experience and nothing wrong with a good detail cleaning, IMO.

Buy Chris Orndorff's excellent Armorer's video and you too can take your SIG apart, clean it, and successfully put it back together.

Buy the DVD. Pulling them apart is simple and doesn't require a bunch of special tools. If you just hose it out you will be removing lube from places you won't be able to replace with the gun still assembled.
