Does anyone make bumper pads for the 226? I have been looking for some for a while but have not been able to locate any.

Sig does make a padded base plate for Sig magazines. Top Gun Supply or Sig directly should be able to supply them for around $8 each. Good luck.

Here you go:

I have one. They are very thin, maybe 1/8". Not the thick rubber or heavy foam pads you see on some magazines. Not sure how much protection it gives. I would like something thicker.

Not that there's anything wrong with thicker (although I don't like big mattresses hanging out the bottom of my pistol grips), but I find that the SIG pads work pretty well. The pad is dense enough to absorb a sharp impact, and the metal portion of the floor plate assembly is extremely hard. I discovered the latter fact when I tried drilling the plate to modify it for use on a different magazine. “Most men … can seldom accept the simplest and most obvious truth if it … would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions … which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabrics of their lives.” — Leo Tolstoy |

The SIG padded magazine base plate is an excellent product. All your P226 magazines should have one installed! You will not regret this decision.

My basic rule of thumb when buying a new Sig is to get a stainless steel recoil guide rod, parts/spring kit, six additional mags, and rubber base plates from Top Gun Supply. I consider all of these "accessories" as part of the total cost of possession of the pistol. Here's a glimpse of the rubber magazine base plates on my 226 mags. |

Do those attach to the metal base pads or replace them?

They are replacements. |

Is the front blade of these any more low profile than the normal metal ones?
My pinky rests against the normal ones is why I ask. I've wanted to try a set of these bumper pads out, but I can also get the +2 adapters for not much more... |

I'm not exactly sure what you mean but here's my 226 with a Sig mag wearing a Sig rubber magazine base plate. |

Not knowing about those, I went to Lowes and bought a package of 1/4" adhesive backed rubber furniture bumper material. A sharp knife and some sandpaper will fit pads to any flat floorplate. I have made them for SIG and CZ. Not pretty, but functional.

Nice, thanks. I was wondering if the front "blade" for lack of a better term of the baseplate stuck out any less on these on the bottom. It looks like it, but not as much as I was hoping. It's just a bit uncomfortable for my pinky is all. I really need to try those +2 baseplates, so that way it would be flush with the grip and I could pull them out if they got stuck. |

Thanks! Looks like I need to get me some rubbers __________________________ "This is my Shield, I bear it before me in Battle, but it is not mine alone. It protects my Brother on my left. i think i understand what you are asking...the answer is no these are "padded baseplates", they are normal baseplates which have a glued on piece of rubber with a hole precut for the take down button. they don't change the profile or footprint of the baseplate and the additional height in minimal. they aren't meant to make insertion or withdrawal of the mag easier...unlike the ones on the X-five or 220...but simply to protect the baseplate when dropped. if you train much with your mags, the front toe and rear corner of the baseplate will be bent upward when you drop your mags on a hard surface. the first is just unsightly, the second makes it hard to take down the mags for cleaning ______________ People that are trying to make the world worst never take a day off, why should I...Light up the Darkness ~ Bob Marley Upcoming Grayguns classes, http://www.GraygunsTraining.com |

Thanks for clarifying. I was looking for basepads that didn't extend so far out from the mag body.

Tang, you mean like these five year old, beat up Pro Mags? One totally crapped out a few months ago. |

You know, Cobra64 ... every time you post a pic of that beautiful, rail-less P226ST ... I get a ... well ... "warm and tingly" feeling. I think you should let me have it. -BK "If it's all the same to you, I'd really prefer to visit the range." |

Are there any tricks or methods to getting them off intact once they have bent corners? I have one of my P226 factory 15-rd mags that I can't get the baseplate off to clean/rebuild the mag. Using pliers to try to straighten the corner only results in crushing the channel so that they won't slide off. I suppose I may end up destroying it to get it off there and then buying a rubber baseplate from TGS to replace it. ------------------------------------- P6 German Police, P220R Carry, P226 |

I've had success in bending the corners back into shape and then using a small screwdriver to open the fold back up.
