I have a swiss P228 that has a somewhat gritty trigger pull that also has an significant amount of stacking. The stacking is appreciably more than my P6 or 226.

Any suggestions? I prefer to tinker on my own guns and am comfortable performing a fair amount of work.

Are there any gunsmithing DVDs that cover trigger jobs?

I haven't seen a DVD that covers trigger jobs specifically. The armorer's CD listed at the top of this forum will tell you how to detail strip though.

If your 228 has the older mainspring assembly, you might notice a difference by switching to the the newer mainspring assembly. I did that with my older 228's and noticed a difference. You would need the new style hammer strut, mainspring, and mainspring seat. You may need new grips too depending on which ones you have.

I've detail stripped and cleaned using the armorer's dvd.

I guess I just need the steps to smooth and reduce the stacking.

I doubt anyone has produced a trigger job DVD due to liability concerns. If you're taking the DIY route, check out this thread by member Caneau.

You might be suprised how much the trigger will benefit from a detail strip, cleaning, and lubrication with TW-25B, the trigger job in a tube. A lower power main spring also helps. That's about as far as I can recommend most people go.

I will admit to doing my own trigger clean up. Nothing as risky as changing sear engagement angles, but polishing trigger bar, hammer strut, hammer and sear surfaces does wonders and doesn't entail much risk. I have been taught by the experts, however. Good luck.

Caneau's guide was exactly what I was looking for.

I promise to be very cautious.

I highly recommend swapping in the new style hammer strut / seat to address stacking if it's not your preference (some like it for various reasons). If you have a newer style Sig you can swap one in to try it.

My dos centavos worth.

My W. German P226 had a pretty bad trigger when I got it. I detail stripped it, replaced the mainspring housing the newer style, installed a 19lbs mainspring and new style trigger return spring. Then I detail stripped and coated the trigger parts with Slide Glide Lite and now the trigger is fantastic.
