I bought a .22 conversion for my P229r from someone on here. It looked new in wrapper when i opened it. I put some lube on the slide rails and put it on my gun. The slide moved Ok, but would not even close to Battery. I could not find any place that was showing marking,on the slide or the gun. I removed it and wiped it down, re installed it and it still was tight. I racked the slide about 10 times...But it feels like the Recoil spring is not enough to even close the slide.
I have ordered all of Jeffs parts for the 22 conversion, But since I have already paid more for this than a new Mosquito, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the conversions. _______________________________ Gun Control Means You should Hit your Specified Target. |

I have seen the slides being a little sticky when new. Your best bet is to see if it cycles and feeds when firing. We had a customer bring his frame and conversion kit in for this same problem, but when he took it to the range, it was fine.

I did take it outside and put one mag through it., I had to smack it about every time to close it. I will Lube it with Oil instead of my normal grease and see if that makes it easier. I swear the recoil spring feels like it is out of a Bic Pen. I am not impressed with the Quality of this build. I doesn't look any better than a Mosquito, But I love my Mosquito.
I shoot a Lot of 22, as an instructor, and Love the trigger on this 229 so really want to use it as another training gun in 22. _______________________________ Gun Control Means You should Hit your Specified Target. |

These seem to hang up between the barrel locking lug and the locking insert.

How can I tell what model 229 this 22 conversion was made for.??
I know there are differences between the Rail and Non Railed..But there are also Differences between the 9mm and 40/357 229's The 22 conversion seems to fit better on my 229 40/357 non railed version. _______________________________ Gun Control Means You should Hit your Specified Target. |

I bought a new conversion for my non-railed 226 and it was real tight to begin with. I greased the rails and cycled the crap out of it...just sat there pullin the slide till my hand hurt. I had checked to see what was holding it up and could find nothing. After the evening of slide-rackin, I cleaned it, greased it good and went out back with a big box of .22s. The fit was much better after the rackin, and after several hundred rounds its fine now. It will feed just about anything now, as long as its not too dirty, so I keep the bore snake handy when I'm shooting.
I bought the P220 Classic, and it was tight when it was new also. After alot of rounds everything seems to work in. I've checked my slides and frames and found no issues with excess wear, so I just use that as an excuse to shoot...gotta break in the gun! I know I wasn't lubing my guns near enough as per Bruce's guide. I have noticed a difference in all my guns since seeing the lube light! |

I had the exact same issue with a non-railed conversion. I sent it to Sig and they fitted the slide to the frame and replaced the slide release and also replaced the chewed up plastic guide rod. I also replaced the guide rod with a stainless one from sigpower . Mine was also brand new.
When I got it back it cycled perfectly. I took it to the range this weekend and fired about 6 different types of ammo through it (about 300 rounds). Found out is loves Federal Bulk Pack...same ammo my Spikes conversion likes. P6, P228, P228 .22LR, 2022, G19, Kimber Ultra Carry, (2) AR .223 & AR .22LR |

I have a 229 2-step which was exactly as you described. I was beginning to think the grease on the slide was too much coupled with the slide not moving freely on the frame to function properly.
It was failing to feed half the time because the slide was not moving rearward enough to pick up the next round. After putting several magazines through it, it was functioning perfectly using standard velocity ammo. The only unresolvable problem I did have was it was grouping about an inch high at 7 yards, two inches high at 15 yards and four inches high at 25 yards. The adjustable rear sight was set for minimal elevation. I contacted SIG and they had me return it eleven days ago. I hope they get it squared away and back to me soon!
